Orchard Park Garden Club Est. 1976 · We're Orchard Park's federated garden club, bringing beauty to our community and fostering education and conservation. New members always welcome!

Beautifying our town. Inspiring our neighbors. The Orchard Park Garden Club brings nature to the heart of the Village. Our members are the hands behind the village planters, Library gardens, and the seasonal magic at the Jolls House and Train Depot. Beyond the blooms, we’re committed to the community hosting an annual plant sale, providing garden therapy for seniors, and awarding annual scholarships to local students. Join us as we foster a legacy of conservation, education, and floral design in Orchard Park.

Congratulations to our Plant of the Month winner! 🌿

This beautiful Hoya was propagated from a large plant belonging to the member’s mother and was recently potted.

Plants shared among family and friends are especially meaningful. A cutting from a treasured plant can live on in another home and comes with a history you can’t find on a store shelf. Sharing cuttings is a wonderful way to preserve favorite houseplants and pass them from one generation to the next.

Do you have a plant that was passed down to you? 🌿

Halloween lunch at our meeting this week 🎃

The food was delicious and the decorations were fantastic! Candy-themed tablecloth, pumpkins, and sparkly jack-o'-lanterns set the mood.

Centerpiece idea: put a vase inside a larger one and fill the gap with acorns, nuts, mini pinecones, or candy. Add water and flowers to the inner vase, then finish with a burlap and plaid ribbon.

What would you fill yours with?

A few photos from our recent seed-collecting workshop with Nancy Schettler. We spent an hour opening dried flower heads and pods, finding where the seeds were hiding, and learning when they were ready to collect.

It was a good reminder that by fall, the garden is already producing some of what we may want to grow next year. Saving a little seed lets us start plants on our own schedule, share favorites with friends, and make use of what is already growing in our gardens.

Thank you, Nancy, for sharing your garden, your seeds and your experience with us!

🌿 September’s Plant of the Month is the Ribbon Fern (Pteris cretica), a graceful fern with long, slender fronds that give it its ribbon-like appearance. It grows best in bright, indirect light, tolerates fairly low light, and is relatively easy to care for compared with many ferns. Read more on our blog to learn how to grow it and how it can be propagated by division or spores:

Meet the Ribbon Fern, September's OPGC Plant of the Month. Learn its light, water, and humidity needs, plus how to propagate Pteris cretica by division or spores.
