The Sheepfold Founded in 1979, The Sheepfold ministry provides abused or homeless mothers with children shelter, refuge and hope for their future in Jesus' name.

The ministry provides a Christian home and resources for mothers suffering from abuse or homelessness to provide for their families and make a new future for themselves. The staff is also knowledgeable about Domestic Violence issues and can provide training to identify and find help for DV victims. Please contact the office or see the website for online resources.

It’s more than just lemons…

The mothers and children that enter the Sheepfold doors come in broken, feeling lonely and lost. It is the heart of the ministry and staff to help them heal body, mind and spirit. There are things happening both big and small on a daily basis in our shelters that aide our residents healing process. For one mother in particular, when one of our volunteers brought the house a bowl lemons from their own personal lemon tree, it made her cry. The volunteer brought them because she know the moms love them. The gesture overwhelmed her, because it wasn’t just about the lemons it was about being thought about. The lemons are a reflection of someone taking time out of their day to gather items they thought they would enjoy, and it was about them making that special trip to deliver them. It is small gestures of love and care like these that help bring healing and hope to the families we serve. The Sheepfold ministry and staff are grateful to be a part of the healing work the Lord is doing in the hearts and minds of the mothers and children in our care.

As a House Manager I try to create some fun experiences for our residents. With the beautiful weather we have been experiencing here in Southern California, I decided to take our families to the beach to walk on the pier and have a picnic. It was one of our Little Lambs first time to the beach and getting to see the ocean. She really enjoyed watching the surfers from the pier. As she watched the surfers fall off their boards she shouted, “Are you okay?” We kept watching, so that our Little Lamb could see that the surfer was just fine and back on his board to catch the next wave. It was so heartwarming for me to see the emotion and concern our Little Lamb had for the stranger she had never met. The Little Lambs in our care have been through a lot, so to witness the care and compassion that she had for others was truly a beautiful moment. Did you know that every 15 seconds a woman is physically assaulted within her home? Domestic Violence is the most common cause of injury to women, exceeding auto accidents, muggings and rapes combined. Approximately 95% of the victims of domestic violence are women. An estimated three to four million American women are abused each year by their husbands or partners. The National Crime Survey data shows that once a woman is victimized by domestic violence, her risk of being victimized again is high. During a six-month period, following an incident of domestic violence, approximately 32% of women are victimized again.

The Sheepfold ministry ministers to these women and their children affected by domestic violence. At the Sheepfold, women and their children can find shelter, safe refuge and a new beginning in life. By easing the pain of abused women and restoring their sense of value and self-worth, we are able to lead them through our six month program. The goal of this program is to find employment and establish them in their own apartment, ready for independent living.

Thank you Miss Amanda for all your help and support. I know my mom and I don’t live at the shelter anymore but you have always been willing to help us with rides and things since we left. Your continued help and support means a lot to me and my mom. We don’t have any family in California so having you and the Sheepfold feels like we do have family. Leaving my husband of 15 years and the father of our son. It was a long time coming and I knew it was not going to be easy. I knew I had to start thinking clearly about my husband and about my situation. No more lying to myself and no more excuses about who he really was. It’s hard to wrap my mind around the fact that my husband has chosen darkness over light. The man I fell in love with doesn’t exist anymore, and that pains me so much.

Although I was never physically beaten or abused by my husband, all of my scares are on my heart and mind. I was emotionally dead. I couldn’t even show emotion to my son. He did not know happiness, excitement or even sadness. I know my face was expressionless most of the time. I knew the Lord during this time, but I never walked fully in the power and strength of the Lord. The enemy had me blinded by my own sorrow and pain.

The time had come. It was time for me to leave my husband and start a new life for me and my son. I didn’t want the enemy to have power in my life anymore. I was given the number to the Sheepfold and gave them a call. That phone call changed our lives forever. I have rededicated my life to Jesus since coming to the Sheepfold, and am now walking in the power of the Lord. My son laughs so much now, it truly makes me cry. I’m grateful for the Sheepfold and all they have given us, not only meeting our physical needs, but our emotional and spiritual needs as well.

Each family that enters the Sheepfold is provided with the individual attention needed to complete the six month program. Our program is designed to go beyond the physical needs of each individual and holistically bring healing. By easing the pain of homeless and abused women and their children, and restoring their sense of value and self-worth, we are able to lead them to a path of healing. The Sheepfold is a safe place for mothers with children seeking new beginnings.

When we left my husband, all I was thinking about was getting somewhere safe and providing for my kids. It wasn’t until we entered the Sheepfold that I realized how broken we really were. The Sheepfold gave me the space and time I needed to process my life and what had brought us to the shelter. I had grown up in a religious home, but never really embraced any type of faith for myself. Since being at the Sheepfold and going through Fran’s Bible studies I have given my life to Jesus. It has brought me so much joy to see and hear my children talk about the Lord. They love going to church, and they love to pray. I can see that they are truly growing in the knowledge and faith in Him. Thank you Sheepfold for helping bring me and my children to faith in Jesus. I am so grateful for the help that the Sheepfold has given me and my mom. When we left my dad we had no where to go and no money, the Sheepfold took us in and gave us a place to stay. They gave us food and my gave me school supplies. I’m proud of my mom for leaving my abusive dad, and thank the Lord for the Sheepfold. I have come to know the Lord here and look forward to the Bible studies. I’m not sure what is next for my mom and me, but I know the Lord will show us what to do and that He will keep us safe. The Sheepfold first opened our doors to homeless, abused and forsaken women with children in October 1979. Since that time thousands of women and their children have found shelter, safe refuge and a new beginning in life as a result of the Sheepfold ministry. The daily teaching of the Bible and practical application of the love and mercies of God are the primary focus of this ministry. During their stay with us, coupled with the non-denominational Bible teachings, families receive everything they need free of charge. A key outcome of their stay with us is that they can live on their own independently and not be tempted to return to their abuser and destructive lifestyle.

The Sheepfold believes that God has a plan for each of our lives and even when we think our life is over, it's often just the beginning of a new one. The mission of the Sheepfold is to come along side mothers and children looking for a new start in life. They are seeking a life free from the fear and hurt of domestic violence. We recognize that only God can heal their wounded soul, change their pain and suffering into strength, and provide them the determination to overcome. We are extremely grateful for the opportunity the Lord has given us to see lives forever changed by His power and might.
