When we left my husband, all I was thinking about was getting somewhere safe and providing for my kids. It wasn’t until we entered the Sheepfold that I realized how broken we really were. The Sheepfold gave me the space and time I needed to process my life and what had brought us to the shelter. I had grown up in a religious home, but never really embraced any type of faith for myself. Since being at the Sheepfold and going through Fran’s Bible studies I have given my life to Jesus. It has brought me so much joy to see and hear my children talk about the Lord. They love going to church, and they love to pray. I can see that they are truly growing in the knowledge and faith in Him. Thank you Sheepfold for helping bring me and my children to faith in Jesus. It has been the greatest gift we have received. – Anne, Sheepfold mom

I am so grateful for the help that the Sheepfold has given me and my mom. When we left my dad we had no where to go and no money, the Sheepfold took us in and gave us a place to stay. They gave us food and my gave me school supplies. I’m proud of my mom for leaving my abusive dad, and thank the Lord for the Sheepfold. I have come to know the Lord here and look forward to the Bible studies. I’m not sure what is next for my mom and me, but I know the Lord will show us what to do and that He will keep us safe. Thank you Sheepfold for everything. – Layla, Sheepfold Little Lamb

The Sheepfold first opened our doors to homeless, abused and forsaken women with children in October 1979. Since that time thousands of women and their children have found shelter, safe refuge and a new beginning in life as a result of the Sheepfold ministry. The daily teaching of the Bible and practical application of the love and mercies of God are the primary focus of this ministry. During their stay with us, coupled with the non-denominational Bible teachings, families receive everything they need free of charge. A key outcome of their stay with us is that they can live on their own independently and not be tempted to return to their abuser and destructive lifestyle.

The Sheepfold believes that God has a plan for each of our lives and even when we think our life is over, it's often just the beginning of a new one. The mission of the Sheepfold is to come along side mothers and children looking for a new start in life. They are seeking a life free from the fear and hurt of domestic violence. We recognize that only God can heal their wounded soul, change their pain and suffering into strength, and provide them the determination to overcome. We are extremely grateful for the opportunity the Lord has given us to see lives forever changed by His power and might.

Women affected by domestic violence are usually financially dependent on their boyfriend/husband. She often has few friends whom she can confide in about her situation. She lives in a state of fear for her and her children. Women in abusive relationships often want to leave the relationship but don’t have the resources to leave or know where to find some resources to help them escape their situations. An abused woman knows that leaving her significant other will mean tremendous economic, emotional, occupational and personal hardships. The Sheepfold ministry is here to help relieve the hardships that women face when fleeing domestic violence. The Sheepfold provides safety, food, clothing, and emotional support for families leaving domestic violence. If you or a woman you know is in an abusive relationship and in need of help, the Sheepfold may be able to help. Our intake team would love to hear from you and answer any questions you may have about the program. You can give them a call at 714.237.1444 Monday-Friday from 9am-4pm.

The Sheepfold ministry believes the Bible is the inspired Word of God and that the Holy Spirit controlled the men who wrote it. We believe the Holy Spirit will activate the Word of God in the heart of a believer, and will cause it to bring restoration and regeneration to the life of the believer. Sheepfold Founder, Fran Lundquist, assembled a series of Bible studies to help our residents explore what God says about domestic abuse. Our House Managers use Fran’s Bible Studies to lead the mothers we serve in the daily studying of the Bible. We pray our residents are able to glean from Fran’s Bible studies and able to break free of the bo***ge of domestic violence.

Each of the Sheepfold shelters is fully staffed with a team of House Managers on site to help each mother establish an account to save any money she gets toward her own apartment, gather necessary records and legal papers, take care of any tickets or warrants, enroll children in school, explore housing and employment options, apply for G.E.D programs and much, much more. They also lead the mothers in our care in daily Bible teachings and practical application of the love and mercies of God. The Sheepfold House Managers love spreading the love and hope of Jesus to every family that walks through the doors of the Sheepfold.

According to the Bible, in Matthew 25:31-46 we are commanded, as followers of Christ, to feed the hungry, give a drink to the thirsty and to shelter strangers, clothe the naked and to visit those who are sick or in prison. It is the purpose of the Sheepfold to fulfill those commandments for homeless women and their children who find themselves with no place to go, no food and no money. The Sheepfold’s transitional living program for mothers with children in their custody, focuses on each families individual needs while providing everyone with a safe an healing environment. After completing our program, every family is ready for independent living.

As families finish up their time at the Sheepfold, they are given an evaluation form to tell us how we are doing as a whole. We are always grateful for their feedback to help us maintain and improve the Sheepfold program in the years to come. Here are some of the responses that we receive.

How did you enjoy your stay? I am very thankful for the Sheepfold and everything they provided, from faith to necessities. I am so grateful and blessed by the program. Thank you for helping me and my family.

Were you helped spiritually and if so, what helped the most? I was helped on all aspects of my faith. I have learned how to trust Him more and how to lean on Him through all my storms. I now know how to make His Word a priority. In my daily life and how to wait for the Holy Spirit to speak to me.

The Sheepfold is honored to be able to support mothers and children seeking safe refuge from domestic violence in Jesus’ name.
