Bella and Sunshine Rescue

We are a dog rescue focused on Dobermans and Doberman-mixes. We will assist other dog breeds as well. We are volunteer-operated and volunteer-managed.

Bella and Sunshine Rescue is a 501(c)(3) based in sunny Southern California. We pull dogs from shelters or take in stray/surrenders, and provide them with medical care to ensure health and to treat (or stabilize, for matters that cannot be treated) any illnesses or injuries. Once the dogs are medically cleared, we find them loving furever homes. In other words, no one in this organization takes ho

me any income. 100% of donations received go straight to helping shelter and homeless pets. Overhead and operations cost is paid for via a special grant specifically for that purpose from one of our corporate benefactors.

$5 dollar Friday, anyone? 😅 (We wont object if you make it a twenty-5 dollar Friday too 🥲🐾)

This fundraiser is for senior Eli. 🥺 Eli is one of our sanctuary seniors who came to us in 2023. Eli has conquered multiple bouts of pneumonia and various lung issues, and has even conquered his THYROID CANCER diagnosis over a year ago after surgery to remove the tumor.

His health finally settled a bit over a year ago, and he spent over a year with his foster family, loved by the parents and children in the home.

Yesterday, we received a call from a very stressed foster mama. Eli wouldn’t eat, and was lethargic and not being himself. The back of his gums are horrible red and inflamed.💔

Eli is going to need bloodwork and xrays at the least. We are HOPING it is just a tooth infection, but we should check on his lungs too because of his past cancer diagnosis.

He left this world peacefully in mama Stephanie's arms, taking with him her love, and leaving his love with her. Should a pup be so blessed.❤️‍🩹🙏

The rescue and foster mama would like to extend our sincerest thanks to those who donated, shared, or sent a thought and prayer for his peace. We were able to raise enough for his goodbye and aftercare. Thank you for taking care of Sarge. He had an AMAZING and loving two and a half years, defying all odds.

Please also keep his foster mom Stephanie in your prayers and thoughts this weekend. Letting go of a beloved dog (foster or not) is one of the most painful events in a person's life.

Sweet Sarge came to us in December 2023 with front leg osteosarcoma; we had it amputated. Somehow, he fought and defied all odds; he has lived with his foster mom for 2.5 years. Years full of love and comfort.

A month ago, he was lethargic and had some vomiting. In his vet checkup, xrays were done and there were some growths in his lungs. For those of you who are not familiar with cancer, lungs is usually where cancer goes when it has spread.

This morning, he did not want to eat, and his breathing is getting a bit more tired. It will be time soon.

We are fundraising towards the fees to help him cross, and to get him cremated so he can go home to his foster mama. So she can have something tangible of him to grieve.

Sandy: 6 years old ish; snuggle-bug and a lap dog; loves humans; super easy dog in the house. A little bit dog-reactive, so needs an intermediate handler. Spayed and up to date on vaccines.

Bo: 2 years old, very energy, sweet, trained. Can possibly live with cats; slow intros needed to resident dogs. Neutered and up to date on all vaccines.

Dustin: 11 months old; sweet as can be to humans; slow intros to other dogs; vaccinated, but not yet neutered (scheduled).

Sanctuary cancer pups Sam and Sarge checkin' in to see if they can raise money for their medical care!💵🩺🩻🐾

🐾Sam came to our rescue in September 2024 when he was found laying on the pavement in LA, dehydrated, flea-infested, with overgrown nails and heat stroke symptoms.. oh lets not forget the perpetually ulcerated eye and a bunch of broken fragmented teeth. We had the bad eye removed, but as he as waiting for his furever home, a lump on his side developed, deemed cancerous by our vet and removal of which would require removal of 2 of his ribs (NOT going to put him thru more surgery.)😅Sam b***y suddenly started to swell last week, and it turned out he had pus-filled infected a**l glads. We had it flushed, but any help with the vet bill of around $354 or so would be amazing.
🐾Sarge came into our rescue in December 2023 with osteosarcoma. We amputated the offending leg, and he's still around and kicking. HIs recent vet visit (vomiting, poor appetite), doctor found some weird stuff in his lungs, but... regardless, he's beaten the odds for over 3 years! Sargie is allowing us to use his image to fundraise the $1,000, plus another $230 something in meds that he needs each month or two to keep him movin'

Any help appreciated to keep our hospice pups comfy!

Rya (fka riyo) has been soaking up the sunshine with her new family 🥰🩷

If you had the pleasure of meeting you know she is the cutest sweetest little dobie around. It took her some time to find her forever home but we are so happy she landed an incredible family. Sometimes the best things take time and it was definitely perfect timing for this sweet pea. 🫶

Thank you foster mama Bre for stepping up for Riyo (and Vector 🪽) when they needed someone the most. 💕

We have bad news for Dorian, but there is a tiny bit of good news in it.🥺❤️‍🩹

The bad news: Dorian’s result is “consistent with disc-associated wobbler syndrome with component of disc herniation, scar tissue, likely result of chronic dynamic movement at C6/7” MRI shows that he has a disc herniation at his C6-C7 that’s pushing on his spinal cord (on the MRI, his spinal cord appears round in all other sections, but is flattened at the C6-C7). His C5-C6 is starting to degrade as well. He also has scar tissue all around that area, which means that spinal cord had been irritated for a good year or so prior to this becoming an issue.

Surgical options were discussed. The surgeon can go in and cut away the bulging part to alleviate pressure. Spinal fusion of that junction is also an option discussed too, but it’ll put stress on the C5-C6 that is already bad. But it is painful in its own right and it will come back, and results are also not guarantee. It will also only give him a few extra years (which he has anyway), so almost pointless…

Our neurologist estimates Dorian’s disease is slow-progressing, so we’re looking at another 2-4 GOOD years with proper pain management and steroids, even without surgery.

Dorian is safe and happy with his foster mom Michelle. He has a checkup with our neurologist in 3 months to monitor disease progression and to make any med adjustments needed. Moving forward, we just need to keep him from any crazy intense activities to reduce the risk of rupturing the bad disc or of making the disease progress faster. He still gets walks, snuggles, treats.

Dorian and our rescue would like to extend our sincere thanks to all our donors to make Dorian’s diagnosis possible. At least now we know, so we can better manage his pain and this disease.

Dorian dreams of being able to walk without pain, and to play like a healthy dog again.🥺🧸 We are fundraising the last $1000 we are short for Dorian’s MRI. Would you help Dorian? Just $5 from your coffee budget this week would mean the world to us and Dorian. Dorian deserves a chance - at least a thorough diagnosis. He was returned to the shelter in mid 2025 because by his last owner because he had cancer on his front leg and his owner could not afford to have it removed. He joined our rescue, and we had that mass removed and tested. Our vet is confident the cancer is gone after that surgery.

We thought that was when Dorian’s life was about to change for the better, and started to help him look for his furever family.😔😔 But only a few weeks later, he started to wobble and lose strength in his back leg, and had trouble squatting to potty. He has been on prednisone and it seems to help him keep his ability to walk (albeit still wobbly), but we need to get to the bottom of this.

Sweet Dorian has been patiently waiting as we take care of the more urgent medical emergencies in the rescue. Now our focus is on him. His MRI is scheduled 2 days from now - he will get his MRI regardless if we raise the final $1k (hola, Anna’s bank acct, hehe). But we appreciate any help so we aren’t destitute and can continue our work.🥹🥺🙃🥲❤️‍🩹🙏

certified lover girl is looking for her forever home 🥹🩷

Our sweet and resilient girl was found in the desert….full of ticks and masses..discarded after making money for the vile people who overbred her. Lil mama feels so much better after some much needed tlc. She’s recovered smoothly from her surgeries (tumors were non cancerous) and is officially ready for adoption! 🥹

This sweet pea is all about cuddles. She’ll climb right into your lap to receive ALL the affection.🥰
