Bella and Sunshine Rescue We are a dog rescue focused on Dobermans and Doberman-mixes. We will assist other dog breeds as well. We are volunteer-operated and volunteer-managed.

Bella and Sunshine Rescue is a 501(c)(3) based in sunny Southern California. We pull dogs from shelters or take in stray/surrenders, and provide them with medical care to ensure health and to treat (or stabilize, for matters that cannot be treated) any illnesses or injuries. Once the dogs are medically cleared, we find them loving furever homes. In other words, no one in this organization takes ho

me any income. 100% of donations received go straight to helping shelter and homeless pets. Overhead and operations cost is paid for via a special grant specifically for that purpose from one of our corporate benefactors.

We need a breather. But it won't stop. We need help. 😔😔‼️‼️😭 I know we sound like a broken record, but everywhere we turn there is a medical case that needs us.

Meet Stewie. Stewie was destined to leave for transport out of dobie-saturated Southern California and to Canada today. His $750 transport cost and certificate of health inspection was already paid, and he was at the kennel awaiting pickup with his 12 other friends. Unfortunately it was not meant to be.

At loading and inspection, our volunteer Abigail noticed Stewie was lethargic, stumbling, and just generally wasn't well. The decision was made to pull him off transport to Canada, and put him in Abigail's car and off to the local vet he goes!😭😭

Well, apparently he has developed some serious pneumonia. On top of that, this guy has been amusing himself with eating rocks... He would have died if Abigail did not catch his lethargy (the nose boogies came am hour or so later).

He is currently hospitalized, as he is being treated for pneumonia before the vet can even do anything about the rocks (as he currently cannot be put under due to pneumonia). Thankfully, the rocks look like they will mostly pass, but there is a BIG stubborn rock in his stomach that will need to be manually removed.

Don't know what this vet bill will be, but .. we need help. Please.😔💔Stewie is one of the sweetest, affectionate, and well-behaved dogs that we have ever crossed paths with. We are trying to save him.

This senior Doberman was found dumped in Victorville. His finder reached out to us for help. We need your help.🙏Hush, you - I know I said I wouldn't take any more dogs, but watch his videos... his eyes are pleading for help.🥺

I know this sounds super cliche, but his body tells some of his stories. His paw pads had seen many miles in the hot sun. His teeth are worn (or blunted, who really knows). He could barely walk or lift his head. He is so dehydrated he COULDN'T EVEN CLOSE HIS EYES. He is skin and bones. Covered in scars (old and new).

Vet, ASAP, of course. He was given fluids, bloodwork, tested for tick and other disease, f***l, and urine culture.

He has a slew of issues. His lymph nodes on his neck are huge and protruding. His kidney values show signs of failure (to be determined; waiting for further labs).

Please donate to help this boy. We named him Theo Pumpkin (since we wanted to name him Theo and Pumpkin). He was seen and being treated at Ark Animal Hospital in Victorville today; we are still pending the final bill.

He is very small and cute and friendly and is healing from a broken leg (he is 100% mobile). Will need a foster from this Wednesday (8/26) to Sunday 8/31.

"Good night, world.😴" -Mango 🥭🐾

Mango was discharged this afternoon and is now snoozing peacefully at his foster mom's Michelle Shea . His ear wound is still seeping and smelly, but it is 100x better than it was. Over time, it should stop once healed.

Despite pain meds, he still whimpers and grumbles/growls. So we are glad he is finally sleeping.🥺❤️‍🩹

‼️‼️🚨🚨HEELLLPPPPP!!!🐾 This sweet boy was suffering beyond imagination... WHERE DO I EVEN START?!?!

Sweet baby boy is now named Mango 🥭🐾 (aka Mango Wango Tango🥭🕺🏻🕺🏻). You may remember him from yesterday .. came in with a mangled tail... and we thought that was the worst of his issues. The necrotic part of the tail was amputated successfully, and Mango will just go through life with a slightly shorter tail.

But.. oh boy... his poor ear... ‼️💔😔 Mango had no ear canal remaining... no ear drum ... nothing normal remaining. Everything in there had degraded into a mushy ball of necrotic tissue, degraded bone, and pus. Per the surgeon, this was a result of TRAUMA that was not treated and infection was allowed to persist. Imagine how long Mango suffered!!!

The surgeon had to re-open the ear, cut, scrape, and drill away the dead bone and tissue, and closed up Mango's ear canal for good. As you can imagine, he was in a world of pain before, and now while the infection is removed and he can start to heal, that surgery .. well, it hurt. So, he is on Fentanyl and Dexdomiter for pain management, and Amikacin antibiotic beads implanted to slow-release strong antibiotics.

Because the injury and infection was so extensive and there was a lot of digging in his head near his brain, he is being monitored for neurological symptoms and for nerve damage.

Big thank you to Two Hands Four Paws Foundation for paying this vet bill, because BSR sure has heck didn't have the $12k+ to save Mango's life so that he can have a chance to experience the life he SHOULD have had.

Alternatively, if you're already set up to donate to us and it's just easier for you to do so, just notate in your donation and we can make sure it goes towards Mango's vet bills/surgery.

(The a-hole that neglected Mango is transient, so he'll be hard to find. But Long Beach Animal Control is opening an investigation into Mango's case, as this is clearly a neglect and cruelty matter. No, I don't want to really think about how trauma may have been caused to the INSIDE of a dog's ear canal... do you?😡)

We grieve for the loss of our sweet pups - and there were just so many this year that we have lost to the weirdest diseases too. But the work doesn't wait for us to grieve.😔❤️‍🩹

💙Please join us in welcoming this young and goofy blue boy who will be joining BSR this morning. He was surrendered to the shelter by a homeless guy. This poor pup's tail is severely injured, necrotic, and bone is poking through. (Whats with these homeless peeps with severely injured pups not receiving medical care? UGH.)

Despite the obvious pain, this lil guy is a happy-go-lucky wiggly pup. He doesn't seem to mind humans or other dogs.

We are BEGGING for a foster for this guy - if you can keep him even short term while he heals from his surgery, we will be so grateful.

Please take a moment this evening to send your love with our alumni Nova as she crosses the rainbow bridge. 💔😔 Nova is only 2 years old, and a horrible genetic disease took her away. Please also send your love to Nova's brave and strong mom, Enly Enly Solis , who has gone through too many losses these past couple of years.

Nova left us with a gift of knowledge 🙏 and we share it with you here: we learned of a condition called ligneous conjunctivitis affecting primarily Dobermans and Golden Retrievers, and is more often seen in young females of the breed. The cause of the condition is genetic deficiency in plasminogen, a protein that breaks down protein fibrin in the mucus membrane. This leads to buildup of hard protein fibrin on mucus membrane surfaces (eyes, throat, mouth, trachea, and as we learned, even external skin). This condition is painful and cruel.

So next time your beloved Dobie or someone you know's dobie (or Golden) has a eye infection that eyedrops doesn't seem to do much for, get to a vet opthamologist asap for diagnosis.

Nova fought this disease for over a month. Her mom Enly was with her every step of the way. Unfortunately, the opthamologist said this was the worse case she has ever seen of this disease. Mama Enly said good bye to her baby girl this afternoon, and gave her the gift of peace and to be free of pain.

Rest in peace, baby girl Nova.
