The SPCA Eastern Shore is a no-kill shelter located in Onley, Virginia.

We provide lots of love, food, shelter and medical care for cats and dogs on the Eastern Shore as we search for adoptive homes.

🐾 📋3 DOWN, 3 TO GO! 📋🐾

When Adopt a Shelter Dog Month started, we had 6 dogs waiting for homes. Thanks to YOU, 3 of them are already curled up on new couches! 🎉 Now we're going for the clean sweep, with 3 more families by October 31st. But we can't do it without our favorite search party (that's you 😉).

MEET LUNA! 💕

Luna is about 3 years old, a 38-lb Shepherd mix with radar-dish ears and a heart to match. She's gentle and loving with every human she meets, laid back, and a big fan of affection (and treats, obviously).🦴 She's house-trained, spayed, and up to date on her vaccines. Bonus fun fact: her previous family says she did great with their chickens! 🐔

The one thing on Luna's wish list: she'd like to be the only dog in the home, so she gets all the belly rubs to herself.

📆⏳THREE DOWN, THREE TO GO…⏳📆

🐾October is Adopt a Shelter Dog Month, and at the beginning of the month, we set a goal: by the end of the month, find furever homes for all of the six dogs who were currently in our shelter. With Louie’s adoption yesterday, we reached the half-way point in achieving that goal, and we want to thank not only those three adopters, but all of you who have clicked and shared and helped us get the word out. Your help has been vital in getting us this far.💕

But there’s only a week left in October, and Luna, Dinah, and Diesel are still counting on you to help us find their families too. So please, if you can adopt, do. And if you can’t, share and help potential adopters find these pups.📣

Will anything terrible happen to them if we don’t reach our goal? No, absolutely not. We’ll care for them as if they were our own for as long as it takes to find their furever families.

But put yourself in their paws. If you were a dog, which would you prefer: life in a noisy kennel or being part of a family in a loving home of your own?🐕

With your help, we can do this!

🎊📣WHOOPEE! TODAY IS SEMI’S “GOTCHA DAY”!📣🎊

That’s right. Semi went home with his new mom and dad today! 💕

There’s no official adoption photo, but we think this one taken during his stay with us does a pretty good job of showing how happy he is to have found his furever home and furever people.

⏳📆ONE DOWN, FIVE TO GO THIS ADOPT A SHELTER DOG MONTH. COULD DIESEL BE NEXT?📆⏳

Diesel came to us on November 13, 2025. That's more than 11 months ago, and he's still waiting. He's been here longer than any other dog in our shelter, and his one-year "anniversary" is coming up. Let's make sure he’s in his furever home before it happens! 🧡

Most people have only seen Diesel through kennel bars, so we gave him a few new backdrops to help you picture him where he belongs: at home, with you. (Diesel is 100% real; only the settings are digitally edited.)

He's 2 years old, about 56 lbs, and a Shepherd/Chow Chow mix. He may look tough, but he's a total sweetheart who leans in within five minutes of meeting you. He loves long walks and treats, and he's neutered, vaccinated and ready to commit. He'd do best in a home with older kids or no kids and no other dogs.

Diesel’s counting on you. Spread the word and help get him into the loving furever home that he deserves!📣

🖤🌙 MEET MIDNIGHT! 🌙🖤

Hi, I’m Midnight! I’m a 6-month-old Domestic Shorthair girl with a sleek black coat and big golden eyes.

I’ll be honest with you: I’m the shyest kitten in the kitten room, and I always have been. When everyone else crowds around, I usually hang back and watch. Once you’ve gently coaxed me over, though, I do enjoy love and affection. 💕 I’m socialized—just selectively social. I’ve learned to trust the humans who take care of me here, and I have a lot of love to give the right person.

✨ A little about me:
🐾 Affectionate, curious, gentle. and quiet
🐱 Great with other cats! I might do best adopted with one of my siblings or going to a home that already has a cat
🐶 I’ve never met a dog up close, and since I’m timid, a home without dogs would probably suit me best
⏳ I just need a patient person who’ll let me warm up in my own time
🏡 I’m spayed and up to date on my vaccines, so I’m ready to go home with you!

👏🎉WHOOPEE! GOTCHA DAY FOR BLUZ!🎉👏

Bluz definitely wasn’t shy about showing how she felt about finding her furever home. She didn’t even wait to leave the shelter before starting to shower her new mom, Barbara, with doggie kisses. 💕

Barbara, thank you so much for choosing adoption. We couldn’t be happier for you and Bluz and wish you lots of fun-filled years and adventures together.🎊
