We provide lots of love, food, shelter and medical care for cats and dogs on the Eastern Shore as we search for adoptive homes.

🐾 MEET UNO — always dressed for the occasion! 🎩🐾

Some cats roll out of bed looking disheveled. Uno rolls out of bed looking like he's about to attend a black-tie gala. This dashing 6-month-old tuxedo boy never met an occasion he didn't overdress for — snack time, nap time, zoomies at 3 a.m., all handled in full formalwear.

A little about the cat in the tux: 🎩 Domestic Medium Hair, classic black-and-white tuxedo coat — no rental required, he owns it 🐱 Friendly, curious, and affectionate (the manners really do match the outfit) 🧶 Loves play and treats — turns out even well-dressed cats have zero chill 😻 Gets along beautifully with other cats and kids 🐶 Dogs are still an unconfirmed guest on the list — TBD

Uno used to be the shy one hovering by the coat check, but he's since found his confidence and now fully embraces being the center of attention. Once you get to know him, you'll see he's got the warmest heart under all that formalwear.

He's the only Domestic Medium Hair in his whole litter, so really — he's one of a kind, in more ways than one.

📣🎩GOOD NEWS FOR PEOPLE WHO USE OUR DRIVEWAY, AND A SHOUT OUT TO THE PAWSOME CREW FROM BRANSCOME!🎩📣

We’re happy to share the news that no longer will pulling out of our driveway onto the highway put your vehicle’s undercarriage at risk. The next time you visit us, you’ll enjoy a vastly expanded and newly paved parking area. Not only did the crew from Branscome do a fantastic job grading and paving the lot, they also arranged to do the job on a Sunday and Monday, the two days that the shelter is closed each week, so that we didn’t have to close to the public on any days when we’re normally open. Gentlemen, thank you!

🐾 MEET MARIO! 🐾

Say hello to Mario — a 6-month-old ball of energy who thinks every visitor is his new best friend! 💛

Mario doesn't believe in playing hard to get, and he’s the first kitten to greet you when you walk into the cat room. He's got gorgeous swirly, Bengal-like markings that make him look extra fancy, and he backs up his striking appearance with a personality to match — playful, affectionate, and always ready to cuddle (or chase a toy — he's not picky).

Mario gets along great with other cats. He hasn’t had a chance to make any canine friends yet, but given his age and personality, he would probably adapt easily to a household that included a dog. He's neutered, up to date on vaccines, and 100% ready to find his forever home.

Fair warning: Mario will absolutely steal your heart within the first 30 seconds of meeting him. 😻

🎉🥁"FROM SHELTER TO FOREVER: TWO NEW BEGINNINGS!"🥁🎉

It’s always a happy day when we can pass along news of an adoption, so today’s doubly happy. Bentley went home with his new dad, Mr. Wilson, late last week, and Oakley the beagle went home earlier this week with new dad William.

There isn’t an adoption photo of either pup just before they left the shelter, so instead we decided to have fun using AI to imagine their lives now. Thank you, Mr. Wilson and William, for opening your hearts and homes to Bentley and Oakley. 💕

We’re wishing both pup and poppa pairs many happy years and adventures together!

Oops! It's embarrassing, but as one of our astute viewers pointed out, our original post for Gotham featured photos of two different cats. This go-round, Gotham has the stage to himself.

🐾 MEET GOTHAM: GUARDIAN OF THE CAT ROOM 🐾

There are cats, and then there's Gotham — a distinguished gentleman of 6 months who never leaves the house without his tuxedo. Black tie is required attire in his world, and he wears it effortlessly, from those sharp little ears down to his crisp white paws.

Don't let the formalwear fool you, though. Underneath that dapper exterior beats the heart of a total sweetheart. Gotham is friendly and affectionate, the kind of cat who warms up to you fast — though he might play it cool and a little shy at first (he is mysterious, after all). Give him a minute, and he'll be leaning into scratches and demanding your full attention like the VIP he knows he is.

He's young, curious, and easily won over by treats and toys — basically a caped crusader with zero interest in actual crime-fighting and full interest in whatever crinkly toy you're holding. He also gets along beautifully with other cats, so he'd make a great addition to a multi-cat household, or he's just as happy being the sole star of the show.

Neutered, vaccinated, and ready to trade shelter life for a real home — Gotham is looking for his people.

🖤 IT'S BLACK CAT APPRECIATION DAY (yes, twice over — national AND international)! 🖤

Meet Onyx, our resident expert on why black cats are the best cats.

Did you know black cats are considered good luck in Egyptian, Celtic, and Japanese traditions — and sailors even brought them on ships for safe voyages? It's really only Western folklore that gave them a bad reputation.

🎶NOTHIN' COULD BE FINER THAN TO WAKE UP NEXT TO DINAH IN THE MORININ'!"— yes, we're borrowing that line from your grandparents' record collection 🎶

Meet Dinah — a 6-year-old Jack Russell/Chihuahua mix with the ears of a bat and the heart of a total sweetheart. 💕

Dinah takes a few seconds to warm up to new folks (she's playing it cool), but once she decides she likes you, that's it — she's all in. Once she decides you’re someone she can trust, expect a lot of belly-up flops on the floor demanding rubs (Dinah throws dignity to the wind when asking for what she wants).

A little about this lady:
🐾 25 lbs and carrying a few extra couch-potato pounds (she's working on it 😅)
🐾 Affectionate, smart, curious, and more than a little funny
🐾 Loves sitting at your feet and soaking up attention
🐾 Has been around kids and should do fine with them
🐾 Been the only dog in her home for a while — she'd prefer to be the star of the show rather than share the spotlight with a canine sibling
🐾 A cozy couch and someone to adore is really all she's asking for

Dinah isn't looking for much — just a lap, a little patience while she warms up, and someone who thinks belly rubs are a love language. Nothin' could be finer, right? 🌅

We dug through our photo archives for this image of former SPCA resident Donald, who had his own idea about how to beat the heat in our shelter exercise yard. It's our way of reminding you that in summer weather you need to take special precautions to keep your furry family members safe and healthy.

Some points to keep in mind:
🚙never leave them in a parked car
🌳provide constant access to fresh water and shade
🦥limit outdoor exercise during peak heat
🔥test asphalt to prevent paw burns.
