Today, we join the entire golf community in mourning the loss of one of our game’s true icons, Natasha Matson Fife.
Natasha’s impact on golf in Kansas is immeasurable. As the most dominant female golfer in Kansas during the post-World War II era, she set a standard of excellence that few have matched. A five-time Kansas Women’s Golf Association Amateur Champion, seven-time KWGA Senior Amateur Champion, seven-time Wichita Women’s Amateur Champion, and three-time Broadmoor Amateur Champion, her accomplishments on the course earned national recognition and the admiration of competitors across the country.
But championships tell only part of her story.
Natasha embodied the integrity, sportsmanship, and respect for the game that define the very best of golf. Whether competing, mentoring, or serving as a rules official, she upheld the game’s highest standards and inspired generations of golfers to do the same.
Her influence extended far beyond the fairways. As Wichita State University’s Women’s Athletic Director from 1971 to 1984 and a longtime educator, she helped create opportunities for countless women in athletics.
It was our privilege to induct Natasha into the Kansas Golf Hall of Fame in 1993. Her extraordinary legacy was also recognized with induction into the Kansas Sports Hall of Fame in 2006 and the Wichita State Shocker Hall of Fame in 2018—honors that reflect a lifetime dedicated to excellence, leadership, and service.
Natasha left the game better than she found it. Her legacy will live on in every young golfer she inspired, every athlete whose path she helped pave, and everyone who had the privilege of knowing her.

Rest in peace, Natasha. Thank you for the example you set and the legacy you leave behind. You will forever hold a special place in Kansas golf history.
