Local 3771 is proud to congratulate Firefighter Frank Bruno on graduating from paramedic school today!

Over the past year, Frank has taken on the challenge of paramedic school, putting in countless hours of hard work, studying, sacrifice, and dedication to reach this milestone. Today, that commitment has paid off!

Becoming a paramedic is no small accomplishment. It takes determination, perseverance, and a commitment to being there for people on some of the worst days of their lives. Frank has demonstrated those qualities throughout this journey, and we couldn’t be prouder of what he has accomplished.

Frank, congratulations on reaching this incredible milestone! Your dedication to advancing your skills and providing the highest level of care to the members of our community is something to be proud of. We look forward to seeing you put your hard-earned knowledge and skills to work!

There’s a reason national fire service standards emphasize the importance of having four firefighters assigned to every engine and truck.

NFPA 1710 identifies four-person crews as the minimum staffing benchmark for career fire departments. This staffing level allows firefighters to operate more safely and effectively while meeting OSHA’s “two-in/two-out” requirements for interior firefighting operations.

Studies have shown that four-person crews can complete critical fireground tasks 25–30% faster than smaller crews. In an emergency, those minutes matter. Faster operations can mean the difference between life and death for someone trapped inside, while also reducing the risks firefighters face.

Adequate staffing isn’t about convenience. It’s about providing the level of emergency response our residents, visitors, and firefighters deserve.

Safe Staffing Matters.

Call volumes for fire departments across Maine have nearly doubled in the last 10 years but staffing is a serious problem, especially for those that rely on volunteers. FULL STORY ⬇️

Under the expert tutelage of Captain Bourque, B-Shift took advantage of some downtime to conduct vehicle extrication training, utilizing Engine 35’s assortment of extrication equipment for FFOP Pooler and FFOP Richard.

The crew worked through different techniques and scenarios, sharpening skills that are critical when seconds matter.
Training was briefly interrupted by a medical call, which B-Shift handled before returning to finish the evolution.

And in completely unbiased reporting… B-Shift may have set the bar just a little higher than C-Shift. 👀

Strong work by the crew and another solid day of training in the books!

Yesterday C-Shift and our two new probationary firefighters Pooler and Richard reviewed drafting, hydrant operations, and water supply procedures!
