Last night, members of Ogunquit Fire Department responded to the Town of Wells to assist with a vessel that had become stranded on the rocks off Ocean Avenue near Moody. Marine 1 responded and worked alongside crews from Wells Professional Firefighters Association, IAFF Local 4652 and Wells EMS to safely remove the sole occupant from the vessel and transport them to shore for evaluation and further medical care.

We would like to commend all personnel involved for their professionalism, teamwork, and dedication. Incidents like this are a reminder of the outstanding cooperation that exists between neighboring departments and the commitment our firefighters, EMS providers, and mutual aid partners bring to every call, regardless of the hour or conditions.

This rescue also highlights the unique demands placed on coastal emergency services. Water rescues are labor-intensive incidents that often require personnel operating from shore, on the water, and in patient care roles simultaneously. While crews are committed to answering these calls, these types of emergencies can quickly stretch available resources and reduce coverage for other emergencies occurring within our own community.

As call volume continues to increase and the complexity of incidents grows, maintaining adequate staffing is critical to ensuring safe and effective emergency response. Additional staffing helps ensure that we can continue to protect the residents and visitors of Ogunquit while also providing assistance to our mutual aid partners when they need us most.

Great work by all agencies involved in bringing this incident to a safe conclusion. These successful outcomes are a direct result of training, teamwork, and the dedication of the men and women who serve our communities every day.

The countdown is on. In just one week, Ogunquit voters will have the opportunity to make an important investment in the safety of our community by supporting Article 38.

For nearly two decades, our department’s full-time staffing levels have remained largely unchanged, while call volume, population, tourism, and service demands have continued to grow. Every day, your firefighters are committed to providing the highest level of service possible, but increasing demands require increased resources.

A YES vote on Article 38 helps move us toward safer staffing levels, improving our ability to respond when seconds matter most. Additional staffing means greater coverage for emergencies, better support for firefighters operating in dangerous conditions, and enhanced service for residents, visitors, and businesses alike.

This proposal is not the finish line it’s an important step forward in our long-term goal of ensuring Ogunquit has the staffing needed to meet today’s challenges and tomorrow’s demands.

We are proud to serve this community and grateful for the support we’ve received throughout this process. If you value a strong, reliable emergency response system, we respectfully ask you to consider voting YES on Article 38.

Captain McKay with D-Shift in Engine 35 responded Mutual aid today with our neighbors at Wells Professional Firefighters Association, IAFF Local 4652 for a propane leak that turned into a little bit of everything.. hazardous materials response, cat rescue, and apparently bread preservation operations.

Strong work by all crews involved, especially FF Sean Connell for getting Tiny out safely and Captain McKay for his expert bread handling skills and assisting alongside Wells crews.

Just another reminder that in the fire service, no two calls are ever the same. Meow
