For the last week of August our porch Geese, Bill and Eti stand in solidarity with the parents and children of York County as they model their back to school outfits. Apparently even the front porch of the Beacon Cottage has back to school fever.

Eti, of course, brought an apple for her teacher. She’s a little nervous but is clearly going for teacher’s pet on day one. Bill is carrying his favorite ruler and has the confidence of someone who definitely did NOT do the summer reading.

Eti has already asked where she’s sitting, what time lunch is and if there will be a test. Bill would like everyone to know that recess is his strongest subject and he believes homework should be considered optional.

Good luck to all of our York County students, parents, teachers, bus drivers and school staff heading back to school!

As for Bill and Eti…we give them until Thursday before one of us gets a call from the principal.

Our walking club for all ages starts on Thursday! The weather looks great and we’re hoping for a big turnout! Just a friendly walk together in the spirit of community, connection and health! 

Meet Emma and Dotti!

We’re so excited to welcome this incredible grandmother-and-granddaughter team to the Beacon Cottage family!

Emma and Dotti will be leading our new Intergenerational Walking Club, bringing people of all ages together for movement, conversation, laughter and meaningful connections. They already have so many wonderful ideas and can’t wait to build a fun and welcoming group.

Whether you’re looking to get a little exercise, meet new friends or simply enjoy some fresh air and great company, we’d love to have you join us!

First mission of the walking club which we have named: Stroll Patrol will be to walk the state of Maine! Well, kinda. The state of Maine is 210 miles wide so participants will be logging their miles at the cottage and when we reach our goal of 210 miles we will celebrate with a brunch and together will pick the next mission! The duo has a lot of surprises in store! Think Scavenger hunts, lunch in the park, etc!! Be sure to join us all! 

At Beacon Cottage, we believe some of life’s greatest lessons happen when generations come together and this is a perfect example of that.

Please help us welcome Emma and Dotti! We can’t wait to hit the road with you both!!

Yesterday’s Goosing Around at the Beacon Cottage…

So, you all may remember that while Bill was away, Eti strutted into summer wearing her “Itsy Bitsy Teenie We**ie Yellow Polka Dot Bikini” (thank you, Brian Hyland, 1960! Sing along if you remember it!)

Well… Bill is BACK, and these two are ready to do August in Ogunquit in style.

Bill has fully embraced vacationland life, relaxing in tourist wear that only someone “from away” could get away with. Meanwhile, Eti decided she had one more musical walk down memory lane for us.

Who remembers Sheb Wooley’s 1958 classic “Purple People Eater”? If you don’t, you might need to look that one up!

Eti proudly presents her 2026 Ogunquit remix:

The “2 eyed, 1 beaked, flying purple people GREETER!”

And because safety always comes first, this purple people greeter is, of course, equipped with her very own personal flotation device.

Just another perfectly normal day of goosing around in Ogunquit with Bill & Eti!

And while these two certainly know how to make us laugh, they also have an important job to do. Coming soon, Bill & Eti will be mixing a little elder justice education into their adventures, sharing simple facts, tips and reminders to help keep older adults in our communities safe, informed and connected.

Because sometimes a little humor is the perfect way to start an important conversation.

BILL IS BACK!

Bill is officially back from vacation and apparently he came prepared for Maine weather!

He vows that rainy days and Mondays will never get him down… especially when he has his bright yellow raincoat & hat, colorful umbrella and trusty rubber ducky by his side.

However… Bill’s cheerful mood seemed to change just a little when he heard that Eti had been showing off her security outfit and hanging out with the Office of Security crew last week!

Bill would like everyone to know that he is NOT jealous. He just has a few questions about what exactly he missed while he was away…and may need to review the security camera footage to “get caught up”! 😂

Apparently, rainy days and Mondays don’t get Bill down… but missing out on all the excitement might!
