Happy Fall y’all!

It may be football season, but Bill and Eti are not giving up on their favorite outdoor activities just yet!

Bill is ready to play 18 holes. He wants a good tee time, a golf cart and most importantly… to know where the 19th hole is. FORE!

Eti is proudly showing off the fish that DIDN’T get away, dressed in her finest fishing wear. No waders needed for this girl. Fish fear her!

Elder Justice Tip: Whether it’s the golf course, the fishing hole or anywhere else you love to spend time, staying active and connected to others is one of the best protections against isolation. Check in on the older adults in your life, invite them along, and pay attention if someone suddenly stops doing the things they love. Sometimes a change in routine is the first sign that something isn’t quite right.

Taking care of those who once took care of us!

Our Porch Goose & Gander are ready for some football! 🏈

Eti & Bill are showing some love to our York County high school football teams!

And by “ready for football,” we mostly mean they’re dressed for it. I’m not sure either one of them could make it down the field, but they sure look the part!

Berwick Academy Bulldogs, Biddeford Tigers, Bonny Eagle Scots, Kennebunk Rams, Marshwood Hawks, Massabesic Mustangs, Noble Knights, Old Orchard Beach Seagulls, Sacopee Valley Hawks, Sanford Spartans, Thornton Academy Trojans, Traip Academy Rangers, Wells Warriors and York Wildcats….

Good luck to all of our local teams! Who are you cheering for this season?

And don’t think Eti & Bill are going to let the Maine Golden Beauty Pageant ladies have ALL the fun this week! They’ve been watching this pageant excitement for months and, quite frankly, they’re getting a little jealous of all the attention.

So naturally, they’ve managed to wiggle their way into a little part of the Maine Golden Beauty Pageant on Sunday too!

Stay tuned…apparently even the Porch Goose & Gander need their moment in the spotlight! 😂👑🏈

For the last week of August our porch Geese, Bill and Eti stand in solidarity with the parents and children of York County as they model their back to school outfits. Apparently even the front porch of the Beacon Cottage has back to school fever.

Eti, of course, brought an apple for her teacher. She’s a little nervous but is clearly going for teacher’s pet on day one. Bill is carrying his favorite ruler and has the confidence of someone who definitely did NOT do the summer reading.

Eti has already asked where she’s sitting, what time lunch is and if there will be a test. Bill would like everyone to know that recess is his strongest subject and he believes homework should be considered optional.

Good luck to all of our York County students, parents, teachers, bus drivers and school staff heading back to school!

As for Bill and Eti…we give them until Thursday before one of us gets a call from the principal.

Our walking club for all ages starts on Thursday! The weather looks great and we’re hoping for a big turnout! Just a friendly walk together in the spirit of community, connection and health!

Meet Emma and Dotti!

We’re so excited to welcome this incredible grandmother-and-granddaughter team to the Beacon Cottage family!

Emma and Dotti will be leading our new Intergenerational Walking Club, bringing people of all ages together for movement, conversation, laughter and meaningful connections. They already have so many wonderful ideas and can’t wait to build a fun and welcoming group.

Whether you’re looking to get a little exercise, meet new friends or simply enjoy some fresh air and great company, we’d love to have you join us!

First mission of the walking club which we have named: Stroll Patrol will be to walk the state of Maine! Well, kinda. The state of Maine is 210 miles wide so participants will be logging their miles at the cottage and when we reach our goal of 210 miles we will celebrate with a brunch and together will pick the next mission! The duo has a lot of surprises in store! Think Scavenger hunts, lunch in the park, etc!! Be sure to join us all!

At Beacon Cottage, we believe some of life’s greatest lessons happen when generations come together and this is a perfect example of that.

Please help us welcome Emma and Dotti! We can’t wait to hit the road with you both!!

Emma will be posting updates on this page so stay tuned! Thank you Emma!!

UPDATE: first walking session will be on August 20!!! The sessions will be the first and third Thursday of every month! We will meet at the Beacon cottage at 9AM! Please RSVP here through messenger, 646-6472 or email us at [email protected]
