Happy New Year to all our friends and supporters of the TramutoPorter Foundation!

In 2023, one of our highlights was launching a partnership with Camp Sunshine at Sebago Lake.

Our partnership began when Camp Sunshine was chosen as one of five TramutoPorter Foundation Compassionate Leadership Award recipients.

This led to a request for supporting a week-long camp for children who have experienced hearing loss due to life-threatening illnesses.

This initiative resonated deeply with our founder, Donato Tramuto, whose personal journey includes his experience of hearing loss at the age of 8 due to a medical condition.

Donato, our cofounder Jeff Porter, and their beloved golden retriever Certo participated in the week-long event. They witnessed the immense compassion and care Camp Sunshine provided to the children, their families, caregivers, and many others—a true testament to the essence of compassion.

We invite you to take a moment to view this video as Camp Sunshine reflects on its year and 40 years of compassionate leadership.

Thank you for your ongoing support and for being part of our journey towards creating a more compassionate world.

P.S. Nominations for the 2025 Compassionate Leadership Award are NOW open!

We are so pleased to announce that the TramutoPorter Foundation, in partnership with Camp Sunshine at Sebago Lake, kicked off this week the first summer camp for children and their families who have experienced hearing loss due to a life-threatening illness.

In his opening remarks on Monday to the children and their parents, Donato said it was impossible not to be overwhelmed with emotion, as this new program holds not just importance but personal significance—a meaning etched deep into the fibers of his being. He then shared -

"At just eight years old, I found myself grappling with a medical condition that would forever alter the landscape of my existence. I was thrust into an unchartered territory, faced with profound hearing loss that none of my peers could imagine.

Suddenly the world felt quieter--intensely so. Classroom lessons faded into a faint whisper, the laughter of my friends turned into distant echoes, and conversations became labyrinths of frustration.

There was no Camp Sunshine!

And so as I gazed upon the bright-eyed children this week wearing their very own hearing aids, my own heart swelled with inspiration and gratitude for the amazing commitment and compassion shown by the Camp Sunshine staff and volunteers as they embraced these amazing young children.

This program we have inaugurated this week is a beacon - to foster acceptance, to build a community, and to ensure that the children have every tool at their disposal to thrive. And to the parents, they are indeed the unsung heroes whose strength often goes unnoticed and whose love and compassion serves as a reminder that in each small victory, we build a bridge from fear to possibilities.

THANK YOU CAMP SUNSHINE!"

We have so many amazing stories about our scholarship recipients.

They've overcome many adversities and we are so proud of the remarkable young adults they are.

Our lives are richer knowing them and getting the opportunity to support their personal journeys.

As many of you know, we started the TramutoPorter Foundation following the tragedy of 9/11. This tragedy affected all Americans but it was also deeply personal to myself (Donato) and Jeff as our dear friends Ron Gamboa, Dan Brandhorst and their 3-year-old son, David, were among those that lost their lives that day. This Foundation means the world to us and has given us the tremendous opportunity to help young people have brighter futures - futures that our friends and little David didn't have.

Recognizing the importance of giving back is a belief that Jeff and I share which unites us in our passion for helping others. I couldn't have found a better partner in life and am thankful for him and all the remarkable people we've met as we seek to make the world a more compassionate place through the TramutoPorter Foundation. He has served as my compassionate rock during the darkest moments that we've both experienced in these past 31 years together.

Bryan De Souza is passionate about mental health and erasing the stigma, especially in communities of color like where he grew up.

He dreams of becoming a psychiatric mental health nurse practitioner who incorporates hip-hop into his practice, and we hope that the TramutoPorter Compassionate Leadership Scholarship will help him achieve that goal.

Bryan was an excellent choice for our first Compassionate Leadership Scholarship Award and we all look forward to seeing him continue to succeed, especially his Foundation Mentor, Anthony Pacillo.

Change can be wonderful, but it brings many uncertainties which can also feel daunting.

With healthcare, there are endless questions about how new technologies like AI can be harnessed to improve patient care.

We think Dr. England's point here can help ground us all as we maneuver this ever-changing landscape.

Sam created Sam. The Foundation didn't create Sam. We opened the opportunities, and he pursued them. We all have stories. And my story and Jeff's story is no better or no worse than the next person's story. It's a story and what it means to be a mentor is to pull that story out of that individual.

We are so fortunate to work alongside our fellow Board Members at the TramutoPorter Foundation. We all do our best to rise to the moment - whether it's a global tragedy or a personal challenge within our communities.

Each TramutoPorter scholarship recipient is mentored by a member of our Foundation Board, ensuring that these young scholars have someone in their corner as they take on this next chapter in their lives. We feel that this is a critical aspect of our program.
