🎃 Tip Off Your Weekend Friday! 👻
Trick-or-treating is more than just costumes and candy—it’s a chance to practice so many everyday skills in a fun, real-world setting!
From walking up to a new door and saying “trick or treat” to navigating unexpected changes along the way, trick-or-treating can support social skills, communication, executive functioning, flexibility, sensory processing, motor skills, and confidence.
Help make the experience successful by following your child’s lead. Practice what to expect beforehand, make a simple plan, build in breaks when needed, and remember that participation can look different for every child.
Maybe they say “trick or treat,” wave, hold out their bucket, stay at the sidewalk, or decide they’ve had enough after a few houses. The goal isn’t a perfect Halloween—it’s creating an experience where your child can participate, connect, and have fun in a way that works for them.
At REC, occupational therapy helps children build the skills they need to participate more confidently in everyday routines, play, and community experiences.
