A big thank you to Oconto Little League for an incredible tournament weekend and a fireworks show that brought so many people together.

Events like these don't happen by accident. They happen because volunteers give their time, sponsors step up, and community members show up to support something bigger than themselves.

When organizations invest in creating experiences for families, kids, and our community, we all benefit. Main Streets stay busy, traditions grow stronger, and memories are made.

Have you noticed the flowers around Oconto this year?

The colorful flower planters throughout downtown were made possible through a grant, while community members and local businesses stepped forward to sponsor the flowers that fill them. These new self-watering planters help keep our community beautiful while reducing the amount of time city staff spend watering and maintaining them.

You may also notice some of the larger hanging baskets appearing around town. These baskets are part of a long-term investment by the Oconto Area Chamber of Commerce. Each basket holds up to four gallons of water, helping them stay healthy longer while reducing maintenance needs and labor costs.

But why flowers?

Because beautification matters.

Flowers do far more than add color to a street corner. They create a welcoming first impression for visitors, encourage people to spend more time downtown, and help support local businesses. More importantly, they send a message that people care.

When a community looks cared for, people are more likely to take pride in where they live. They are more likely to pick up litter, maintain their property, volunteer their time, support local events, and invest in their neighborhoods. Beautification has a way of creating momentum. One improvement inspires another.

Communities don't become great places because of one large project. They become great places because people consistently invest in the little things that make a place feel special.

The flowers, hanging baskets, painted windows, planters, and community improvements happening throughout Oconto are all part of something bigger. They reflect a community that takes pride in itself and believes in its future.

Most people experience Copperfest for a few hours.

A parade. A concert. Good food. Time with family and friends.

What many don't see are the volunteers setting up before sunrise, hauling equipment across town, directing traffic, picking up garbage, answering questions, moving from the parade route back to the festival grounds, and staying long after the crowds have gone home.

Copperfest doesn't happen because an organization puts it on.

It happens because people care enough about Oconto to give up their evenings, weekends, and time with their own families so thousands of others can make memories.

Every barricade placed, every tent raised, every activity coordinated, and every cleanup task completed is done by someone who simply wanted to help make our community a little better.

This weekend, when you enjoy Copperfest, take a moment to look around and notice the people in the volunteer shirts, the committee members running from one task to the next, and the countless community members working behind the scenes.

Events like Copperfest aren't built by one person. They're built by a village.

And that village is what makes Oconto special.

Thank you to every volunteer, sponsor, organization, and community member helping bring Copperfest to life this weekend. Your work matters more than most people will ever know. ❤️

Did You Know? The City of Oconto Has a Tourism Commission.

Many people have heard the term, but few know exactly what a Tourism Commission does.

A Tourism Commission oversees the use of room tax dollars collected from visitors who stay in local lodging establishments. By Wisconsin law, a significant portion of those funds must be used to promote tourism and attract visitors to the community.

What does that mean?

Tourism dollars can be invested in marketing campaigns, community events, wayfinding signage, beautification projects, public art, festivals, recreational amenities, and other efforts that encourage people to visit Oconto and spend time here.

Treasure hunters, bargain shoppers, and Copperfest visitors—this one's for you! 🛍️

The Machickanee Players are once again transforming the Park Avenue Playhouse into a treasure-filled shopping adventure during Copperfest.

With thousands of donated items, homemade baked goods, raffle baskets, silent auction items, and plenty of surprises, you never know what you'll find.

Sometimes the best Chamber visits aren't planned.

I stopped by The Sim Links tonight thinking I'd enjoy a couple rounds of golf. Instead, I found something even better.

I walked in to find the owners celebrating a family birthday. Kids laughing. Cake on the table. Parents, grandparents, and friends gathered together. For a moment, it wasn't about business at all.

It was about family.

This is the literal heart of our community.

Behind every small business is a family investing their time, energy, money, and dreams into something they hope will serve others. We see the storefronts, the signs, and the products. What we don't always see are the birthday parties, late nights, sacrifices, and memories being made behind the scenes.

Small businesses aren't just places we shop.

They're where life happens.

When we support local businesses, we're supporting local families. We're helping create gathering places, opportunities, and community connections that simply can't be replicated anywhere else.

Thank you to The Sim Links for the reminder that the heart of Oconto isn't found in buildings.

It's found in the people inside them. ❤️
