Six days. One hospital floor in Nashville. A whole lot of camp.

Sunrise H Camp just completed its first pilot at Monroe Carell Jr. Children's Hospital at Vanderbilt, and NewsChannel 5 was there to see it.

Games, arts and crafts, music, and the kind of ordinary, silly, everyday joy that belongs to every childhood, brought right to the kids who couldn't get to camp this summer. Free of charge, the way every Sunrise program is.

One mom told NewsChannel 5 that her daughter, in the middle of a long stretch of treatment, asked not to leave. She came in excited instead of afraid. "This is her joy right now," her mom said.

That is the whole reason we came.

Thank you to our partners at the Gordon Jewish Community Center for partnering this with us, and to the care teams at Monroe Carell who made room for camp inside a working hospital. And thank you to every counselor and volunteer who showed up with a full heart for six straight days.

Camp came to the sixth floor.

For six days, Sunrise H Camp turned a floor at Monroe Carell Jr. Children's Hospital at Vanderbilt into a place for crafts, games, music, and laughing with friends. Free of charge, for every family.

The H stands for Hope, Healing, and Happiness. We think it showed.

Color War at Sunrise Day Camp – Long Island and Pearl River looks like this thanks to the Amazin’ Mets Foundation.
 
Their support does two things. It brings the cheers, the teamwork, and the full-tilt joy of Color War to our Long Island and Pearl River campers. And it sends 20 children to Sunrise Day Camp this summer at no cost to their families.
 
That is a full summer of friendship, swimming, sports, and ordinary childhood for kids who have every reason to miss out on it.

Meet Sophia DeBellas, Sunrise's very first Virginia B. Toulmin Leadership Scholar.

Sophia joined the Sunrise family as a volunteer in 2023. Right now, she's a counselor at Sunrise Day Camp Staten Island, helping kids with cancer and their siblings just be kids. A pediatric cancer survivor and public health student at Nova Southeastern University, she's now starting a year of mentorship with our CEO Arnie Preminger and Sunrise's senior leadership team as one of the next great women leaders in mission-driven work.
