The Humane Society of Marion County is a non-profit no-kill shelter dedicated to the care and protection of animals in Marion County, Florida. We’ve come a long way since our humble beginnings in 1964 with a couple of foster homes and a few good people with a burden to care for these helpless creatures. The first facility, built-in 1979 was located about 15 miles west of Ocala off Hwy 200 in the blackjack woods where very few people lived. Today, this area is very heavily populated and continues to grow.

Happy Veterinary Technician Appreciation Week! 🐾💗

To our incredible vet techs, thank you for loving every animal that comes through our doors, no matter the condition they arrive in. You help them heal, give them comfort, and prepare them for the happy, healthy futures they deserve.

Every new face brings a new story, and behind so many happy endings are the hands and hearts of you. Thank you for pouring love into every life, knowing that your reward is watching them leave our shelter and begin a new chapter with their forever families. 🩷

From all of us at the Humane Society of Marion County, thank you for being such an important part of every happily ever after! 🐶🐱🐾

Happy Whisker Wednesday…meet our special boy, Bentley! 💙

Bentley has been in our care since he was a teeny-tiny baby, and his journey to feeling better has been a long one. 🥹💕

At just 6 months old, Bentley has already been through so much. He struggled with significant swelling that required medication, ongoing veterinary care, and ultimately surgery. After weeks of treatment, checkups, and recovery, this brave boy has finally turned a corner!

And now that he’s feeling better? His crazy kitten energy is BACK! 😂🐾

Bentley is finally ready for the next chapter: a forever home filled with love, playtime, and all the adventures a growing kitten deserves. 🏡💙

He’s done the hard work of healing. Now he just needs a family to call his own! Come meet Bentley at the Humane Society of Marion County! 🐱
