Gentle Carousel Miniature Therapy Horses An award winning 501(c)(3) nonprofit charity celebrating 29 years of service. Teams of tiny therapy horses bring love to over 25,000 people each year.

An award winning 501(c)(3) non-profit charity celebrating 25 years of service in 2022. The therapy horses were called in to comfort survivors and first responders of the mass shootings at Sandy Hook Elementary School in Newtown, CT, the Emanuel African Methodist Episcopal Church in Charleston, SC and the Pulse nightclub in Orlando, FL. They helped the tornado survivors of Moore, OK, victims of the

fires in Gatlinburg, TN, families in the aftermath of Hurricane Irma, families and first responders after the building collapse in Surfside, FL and visit thousands of patients in children's and veterans hospitals across the country each year.

Remembering Taylor and thinking of the Skromme Family today as another month of May is about to come to a close.

Therapy horse Apollo works with patients in hospital care and at schools in memory of Taylor Jean Skromme (November 10, 1999 - May 24, 2022). Taylor was a beautiful 22 year old Physical Therapist Assistant with a passion for horses and barrel racing. Many young children touch a horse for the first time or learn about barrel racing for the first time as Taylor’s love for horses and the sport lives on with Apollo.

In October Apollo will participate again in the Taylor Skromme Barrel Race at the annual Hobby Horse Equestrian Games.

This year Apollo has worked across Florida from visiting the Florida State Capitol in Tallahassee to comforting families of the tragic shooting that occurred at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School in Parkland, Florida. Apollo wears Taylor's racing colors when he works.

If a week could look like a wild little horse, this week would be therapy horse Rainbow.

We have had some wild weather with multiple days of thunderstorms with lightening hitting close to the farm, no WIFI for two weeks because the nearby fires melted the equipment at the substation before the rain came, the new developers building near us accidentally cut the underground lines, our electric gates stopped working and right now the water pump for our well just started spraying everywhere and the repairmen are on the way.

But we have not missed a promised visit with the therapy horses!

Pick up your free coloring book on June 4th and select a book to take home too!

The kickoff summer reading program for Gentle Carousel's Reading with Horses will include the Marion County Memorial Honor Guard, the mayor of Ocala and a ribbon cutting by the Ocala CEP. It will also include the debut of a coloring book for each child about careers in the horse industry.

The coloring book is an educational project by the CEP's Equine Initiative Ocala, presented by Pyranha to teach local elementary students. Thousands of copies were printed to be distributed to Marion County schools this coming school year. Therapy horse Moonshadow is on the coloring book cover and will be at the first reading program this summer.

Gentle Carousel's Reading with Horses summer literacy programs are back again on Thursdays at 10:00 AM starting on June 4, 2026. They will take place at Midtown Station overlooking Tuscawilla Park at 235 NE Watula Ave, Ocala, FL 34470.

Each week will feature a book by different authors and publishers and the ACTUAL equine character from that story to bring the book to life.

Gentle Carousel's Reading with Horses is free to the public including summer schools and camps. Children will be able to select a free new book each week they attend to build their own library at home. Children without a summer reading routine can lose one to three months of the reading skills they spent the previous school year building.

Gentle Carousel's Reading with Horses summer literacy programs are back again on Thursdays at 10:00 AM starting on June 4, 2026. They will take place at Midtown Station overlooking Tuscawilla Park at 235 NE Watula Ave, Ocala, FL 34470.

Each week will feature a book by different authors and publishers and the ACTUAL equine character from that story to bring the book to life.

Therapy horse Magic with the son of U.S. Army Specialist Markie Tyrell Sims, who died in Panjway district, Afghanistan, of head injuries suffered after a roadside bomb detonated near his vehicle. He was the third member of his unit to die.

This Memorial Day weekend take time to remember all those who have made the ultimate sacrifice for our nation and for the loved ones they left behind.
