🐈 “WHY SHOULD I HAVE TO PAY FOR CATS I DIDN’T CREATE?”

Oh, we hear this one a lot. Usually right before:
“There are cats in my backyard. Can you come get them?”

And therein lies the problem.

You don't have to become a cat rescuer. You don't have to love cats. You don't have to open your home to a colony. But if your position is “I don't want these cats here, I don't want to contribute anything toward solving it, and someone else needs to come make them disappear”…

Well, congratulations. You've just described how we got here in the first place. 🙃

No Paws Left Behind Kitty Rescue and other rescue’s are not the municipal “Get These Cats Out of My Yard” department. We're a small nonprofit made up of people who work jobs, pay bills, foster animals, answer midnight emergency calls and spend our own time and money trying to prevent the next generation from being born.

Here's the part people REALLY don't want to hear:
Removing the cats you see does not remove the problem. If unaltered cats remain, more kittens will be born. Remove one colony and another group can move into the same resources. It's called the "vacuum effect" and that's why you don't see animal control driving around tossing every stray in to a truck to the pound, anymore. They determined that was useless.

That's why we believe in TNR+M — Trap, Neuter, Return + Manage. 🪤✂️🐾

Trap.
Neuter.
Return.
MANAGE.

Management means monitoring the colony, identifying newcomers, sterilizing new arrivals, keeping feeding controlled and responsible, vaccinating when appropriate, getting friendly cats and kittens into homes, and continually working to reduce the population over time. Because “feed them and hope for the best” isn't TNR+M. Neither is “get rid of every cat you can see and call it solved.”

If you want fewer cats in your neighborhood, we absolutely want that too. But somebody has to actually do the work. So instead of emailing a rescue demanding that they come trap the cats behind your garage at no cost to you, consider asking:

👉 How can I help?
👉 Can I help fund the surgeries?
👉 Can I help trap or transport?
👉 Can I make sure my own pets are sterilized?
👉 Can I help identify newcomers before they become another colony?

Because here's the uncomfortable truth: you may not have created the problem, but if you live in the community affected by it...you can either be part of the solution—or continue waiting for somebody else to fix it for you.

No Paws left Behind Kitty Rescue. We're already fixing problems that other people decided weren't theirs. ❤️ We'll continue doing everything we can but we cannot be everybody's free backyard-cat removal service.

🐾 TNR+M isn't about asking whose problem this should be. It requires YOU to help do the work that actually stops the cycle. So let's get to work.

The ugly truth about "free" TNR

We hear it every week:

“Can someone come trap these cats?”

"Why do I have to pay? These aren't my cats, I just feed them because I don't want them to starve."

We understand.

Most people don’t realize what goes into TNR they just think it should be “free” and that someone else can handle it.

But here’s the truth:

That “free” service you’re asking for?

It's only free to the person asking, never to the people doing the work.

Every trap, every can of food, every drop of gas costs someone. Appointment fees, Capstar, dewormer, tuna, cat food, gas, even puppy pads to line traps, none of it appears out of thin air.

Each “free” TNR job costs hundreds of dollars before we even count the hours of driving, feeding, cleaning, trapping, and returning.

And behind every “free” service are real people.

Volunteers washing soiled traps in their driveways.

Loading and unloading scared community cats before sunrise.

Skipping dinners and losing sleep to make sure those cats get trapped, fixed, vaccinated, and safely returned.

This isn’t a hobby. It’s hard, messy, emotional, draining, real work.

“Free” doesn’t mean easy. It means someone else is paying the price.

Through their time.

Through their gas tank.

Through their weekend.

Through their heart.

So next time someone says, "Well, these aren't my cats", remember they aren't ours either. These cats didn't ask to be there. Someone let it get to this point, and now we can work together to make it right.

If you can’t trap, donate 💰.

If you can’t donate, share 📣.

If you can’t share, educate 📖.

Because, behind every "free" TNR is someone quietly spending their own time, money, and heart to make sure cats don't keep multiplying in silence.

Every cat matters. Every caretaker matters. Every dollar helps!

Meet these two boys. They were surrendered to us by an elderly couple that was getting help with the strays at their home. We took in 2 litters. The older litter of 4 was about 11 weeks old and very scared. We managed to get two of the boys socialized to be adopted out. BUT one of the boys Coal (who is social) his brother Buddy does not liked to be petted or held yet. He does however love to play with his brother Coal (all Black) and we feel he is a cats cat which means he probably should be adopted with Coal. Do you have a home big enough for both of these boys? With time Buddy (tuxedo) may be able to trust and come around to his family. We have a special adoption fee for these boys. They are very energetic and enjoy chasing each other around the room.
