It was great to spend time with neighbors and community partners at Beef Up The Block, hosted by State Representative Camille Y. Lilly and Senate President Don Harmon at Sayre Language Academy!

Our team enjoyed catching up with Rep. Lilly and Sen. Harmon while sharing NAMI Metro Suburban resources with attendees throughout the day.

A special shoutout to NAMI’s own Phillip Jackson, who jumped into the community Q&A with thoughtful questions for local farmers about how local beef and produce make their way from farm to table.

We love seeing our team get involved, connect with neighbors, and be part of the conversations happening in our community.

Thank you to State Representative Camille Lilly and State Senator Don Harmon for bringing neighbors together and making us feel so welcome! 💙

We were grateful to welcome State Representative Camille Y. Lilly to NAMI Metro Suburban’s Drop-In Center and Oak Park Living Room!

The visit was a wonderful opportunity to share more about the programs, resources, and community-based support available through both spaces and to discuss the importance of making mental health care accessible close to home.

Thank you, Representative Lilly, for spending time with our team and supporting stronger mental health resources in our communities.

Supporting someone you love with a mental health condition requires patience, understanding, and care. Sometimes, a caregiver’s needs can begin to feel secondary.

Our latest blog takes a closer look at caregiver burnout, including signs that you may be feeling overwhelmed and ways to care for your own well-being while continuing to support someone you love.

It also connects caregivers with free NAMI Metro Suburban resources, including Family Support Groups, one-on-one family support, Family-to-Family, and our Living Rooms.

It’s exciting to see what can happen when a community comes together around a shared vision.

NAMI Metro Suburban team members Niya Sutherland, Joe Zuzich, and Alexa Eggers recently joined neighbors and community partners for Summit Together – A Creative Placemaking Initiative, celebrating recent improvements in gardening, public art, and creative projects, all while beautifying local spaces and building community connection and pride.

NAMI Metro Suburban’s team is proud to have contributed to the larger effort through our involvement with the Summit Community Network and SGA Youth & Family Services, from helping promote the community needs assessment to participating in workgroups, volunteering, collaborating with partners, and staying engaged with what’s happening in Summit!

It was especially meaningful to share the moment with Sergio Rodriguez, Village of Summit President and President of NAMI Metro Suburban’s Board of Directors.

Communities are strengthened when we show up for each other. 💙

A new school year can bring lots of excitement, but for some kids, it can also bring a lot of uncertainty.

If you’re noticing more stomachaches, trouble sleeping, your children seeking more comfort or closeness, irritability, or reluctance to go to school, it may be their way of communicating challenging feelings.
