My name is Ryan Russ. I am NOT a politician. Although I love my country and the village I live in, I have not been what anyone would consider an “activist” for any particular cause. I have always been passionate about Forest Park though ~ the home it was to me as a child (a much less diverse community than it is today), the home it is to me now as a divorced dad with two young sons, and the home it has yet to become! It is based on my love for Forest Park, belief that it takes all of us working together to grow Forest Park, along with the willingness to dedicate myself to hard work and service; I have decided to seek a position as a Village Commissioner . I am a life-long Forest Parker who attended Kindergarten at St. Bernardine School and then went to Garfield and FPMS, graduating in 1990. I grew up a “Hannah boy” ~ the 500 block of Hannah was our turf and we were safe, watched over by everyone in the neighborhood, even for a late summer night game of Chase! I love sports, kids & the arts and played and coached Little League & Youth Soccer. I was involved with Circle Theatre as a child on stage and later an actor and director with the Emerging Young Artists program there. I began as a seasonal employee at the Park District in 1991. I graduated from the Chicago Academy for the Arts in 1994 as my childhood friends & I went to high schools scattered over the area, but we stuck together ~ that’s Forest Park! After high school, again, we all went our separate ways to college or job pursuits, but remained close ~ that’s Forest Park! Because we grew up here, raised by the village, most of us have come full circle and are now watching our own kids play sports and form friendships for the next generation! That’s Forest Park! I later worked as a teacher’s aide at the Middle School. I have been employed by the Park District full-time since 2012, currently holding the position of Maintenance Foreman/Safety Coordinator . While I don’t have much of a “business” background, I think some might describe me as a “jack-of-all-trades” ~ I have extensive construction /maintenance knowledge, I love to sing and the arts. I work in my spare time as a D.J., and have done many side jobs for folks in Forest Park in addition to helping my parents manage their 4-flat in Westchester. I live in and am landlord to our property in Forest Park and am active in numerous community activities. Most recently, I became a member of the Citizens’ Advisory Council. I pride myself on being adaptable and a loyal “team player.

I seek the office of Village Commissioner to serve Forest Park & its citizens with energy, passion & the love for my village that I’ve had since I was a kid! I would seek to build on our common ground, NOT our differences, to find solutions to the problems that face our village – now more than ever. While we are not unique with the problems that we have, I believe we can be progressive and proactive in working on these issues. I will spend the coming months listening to people’s concerns and educating myself on the recent and historic actions of our Village Council. Many Forest Parkers have known me my whole life. I have experienced our Village from a child’s eyes through today, where I now envision a future for my own children.

With all that being said, campaigns cost money and I need your help! To jumpstart this campaign I am selling "We Love FP" t-shirts for $19 for 2019. If you would like to purchase an “We ❤️ FP” t-shirt, please go to the link at the bottom of this post.
