Permaculture Principle 6: Produce no waste. Value and make use of everything available so that nothing is truly discarded or wasted.
This principle has us thinking about pumpkins and leaves. The pumpkin you carved could be breakfast, lunch, and dinner for squirrels, birds or chickens. Leaves left in your October garden make incredible mulch for your spring garden. Plus, they provide a safe haven where beneficial insects can tuck in for the winter.
It also has us thinking about sunlight. The clocks fall back this Sunday, and evenings will get dark earlier. Let’s make the most of the daylight we have, and make our homes warm, welcoming places to be after sunset.
And it has us thinking about community. As we head into the colder months and holidays approaching, sometimes isolation can feel like the easier choice. You have a community available to you with South Shore Permaculture. We invite you to value and make use of it with our Potluck & Movie Nights, Sustainability Book Club, Tuesdays with Todd, Ecology of You’s Grounding Circles, and with our Permaculture Design Course starting in January.
From Pumpkins to Daylight to Community. Leave nothing discarded or wasted.
