Empower is an international nonprofit with a very specific MISSION — to empower, support and connect children + young adults who have experienced the loss of a parent. Our EVENTS and MENTOR PROGRAM are offered for children + young adults up through age 24.

What a weekend! TEAM Empower took on the 2026 ASICS Falmouth Road Race this past Sunday, August 16.🎉

From the excitement leading up to race day to the finish line celebrations (and everything in between!), we are so proud of every runner who took on the 7 miles with purpose.

Together, TEAM Empower raised more than $75,000! Every mile mattered. Every cheer counted. Every dollar raised will help Empower continue supporting children and young adults navigating the loss of a parent.

A huge thank you to our incredible runners, volunteers, donors, supporters, and everyone who helped make this weekend so special. We couldn’t have done it without you!

✨ Runner Spotlight: Kelly Unangst ✨

Every year, Kelly runs for Empower in honor of her mom, whom she lost 7½ years ago. Through every mile and every dollar raised, she keeps her mom’s legacy alive while helping children and young adults find support after the death of a parent.

“Losing her just 11 months after becoming a mom myself was one of the most difficult experiences of my life. Not a day goes by that I don’t miss her beautiful smile, her guidance, and her love.”

While the loss never gets easier, Kelly finds comfort and purpose in running Falmouth and raising funds in her mom’s honor. Falmouth has become a treasured summer tradition for Kelly and her family, and she is grateful for the opportunity to celebrate her mom’s life by making a difference for others.

It can show up on the first day of school, during a dance recital, at a birthday celebration, or on an ordinary day when you simply wish they were here.

As life continues and new memories are made, the love we carry for the people we’ve lost continues too. There is no deadline for missing someone, no “right” timeline for healing, and no expiration date on grief.

Some days hold joy. Some days hold tears. And sometimes, they hold both. 🦋

Wherever you are in your grief journey, Empower is here to remind you: you are not alone. 💜
