📣 NEW EXHIBIT ANNOUNCEMENT! 📣

Over the past few months, Society staff and volunteers have been quietly preparing something special… and we’re so excited to finally share it with you!

"The American Wedding: A Revolution in Style and Tradition" explores how wedding fashion tells the story of American identity, culture, and change over time. Featuring 32 gowns from 1815–1995, many with connections to Cohasset families, this exhibit brings history to life through stunning dresses and personal stories. Highlights include an 1883 purple silk gown, an 1855 silk brocade dress worn by six brides, and a beautiful multi-generation family grouping spanning over 100 years.

You’ll also see wedding photos, accessories, and special loans from other South Shore institutions: Duxbury Rural & Historical Society, Hingham Historical Society, Scituate Historical Society, Norwell Historical Society, Plymouth Antiquarian Society, and Marshfield Historical Society.

Plus, don’t miss lectures, private tours, and a champagne & cake opening night reception on Friday, May 1st! Tickets for all of these special events are on sale now on our website.

Stay tuned for more details. We can’t wait to welcome you to our newest exhibition!

Join us this Thursday, April 16, at 5:00 PM at Lightkeepers for a lecture by Jim Glinski on the Lincoln family and how they navigated living on either side of the line between Cohasset and Scituate for generations.

The talk will cover the role of the Lincoln family in Cohasset’s 1770 separation from Hingham, early boundary disputes in the region, and the historical significance of the Mordecai Lincoln property, just over the border in Scituate. It will also touch on the present status and future of the Mordecai Lincoln House, along with the family’s connection to President Abraham Lincoln.

Jim is a published author, a member of both the Scituate Historical Commission and the Scituate Historical Society, and the vice chair of the Mordecai Lincoln Property Committee.

Free and all are welcome!

Don't forget to join us tomorrow afternoon for the second talk in our 250th anniversary series!
