Thank you to our teen volunteers! We had many amazing teen volunteers this summer at our Lunch in the Park events! They helped set up, tear down, and make sure the event was running smoothly. They engaged the community by playing gaga ball, filling lemonade cups and even distributed snacks.

We are so grateful for their dedication this summer! And now we know these leaders are doing their best learning in the Norwalk Community School District. Always growing leaders and learners!

A big shout out to Luana Savings Bank for serving lunch at Lunch in the Park this summer! We are grateful that they came along side our smaller church providing volunteers and food for a great Friday! We are so grateful for the hard work and dedication to NAMA's mission and the community!

Did you know the Norwalk High School has a food pantry! Starting TODAY and every Wednesday after the pantry is open 2-5pm. The pantry is open to ALL! Check out the graphic for more details.

The pantry will be closed on October 14, 21, November 25, December 23 and 30.

The Polk County Extreme Temperature Plan will activate today, Aug. 31 at Noon. The plan will remain active through Saturday, Sept. 5th.

Afternoon highs are expected to reach the mid 90's with heat indexes soaring towards 100 - 103 degrees.

Activation of the plan includes:

Access to area homeless shelters
Activation of cooling centers (including all Des Moines Public Library locations during open hours)
Free rides to these locations on DART buses

All in the impacted area are encouraged to check on family, friends, and neighbors, particularly those in these vulnerable populations:

Pregnant
Newborns
Small children
Elderly
Those with chronic illness

We had a very busy day at the Pantry on Thursday. We served 128 families, including 5 new families, providing food to a total of 366 people. This is the second largest week the pantry has had this year!

In August, the pantry served an average of 114 families per week.

Many thanks to all for the food donations we are receiving! Several local gardeners are generously donating their extra produce and it is greatly appreciated! And Capitol City Fruit continues to provide produce for our families each week. The families truly enjoy being able to choose fresh produce for their meals.

Many thanks for all the volunteers who help out from all over Norwalk and beyond, from those who provide food to the pantry and the monetary donations allowing the purchase of items such as milk and meats weekly. The gratitude of the families served by the pantry is evident each week when they come to pick up food.
