🎆 Tuesday Tip: Fireworks, Thunder & Noise Stress in Dogs 🎆

Loud noises can be terrifying for many dogs and often lead to panic, escape attempts, and missing dog situations. The best time to prepare is BEFORE the fireworks start or the storm rolls in.

✔️ Know the signs of stress
✔️ Create a safe, quiet space
✔️ Make sure ID tags, microchips, and GPS collars are up to date
✔️ Secure gates, fences, doors, and windows
✔️ Keep dogs indoors and supervised during storms and fireworks

A little preparation can go a long way in keeping your dog safe and preventing a frightening escape.

Happy Father’s Day to all of the incredible dads in the Harley’s Animal Haven family! 💙🐾

Today we’re celebrating the foster dads, adopter dads, volunteer dads, pet dads, and every man who has opened his heart to an animal in need.

Thank you to the dads who bottle-feed orphaned kittens, sit on the floor earning the trust of a scared rescue, make room on the couch for “just one more,” and somehow always end up wrapped around the paw of the animal they swore they weren’t getting attached to.

Thank you to the dads who chose adoption and gave a rescue animal the loving home they deserve. Every adoption is a second chance, and every rescue animal who finds a family is lucky to have someone willing to love them through every stage of life.

Whether you’ve fostered, adopted, volunteered, donated, transported, or simply loved an animal with your whole heart, you are part of what makes this rescue community so special.

To all of the amazing dads who help us save lives, heal broken hearts, and give animals the futures they deserve, we are so grateful for you.

JoJo is equal parts sweet, stubborn, and completely unimpressed with our plans for her.

Unfortunately, one thing JoJo can’t argue her way out of is the situation she’s found herself in.

After her owner passed away, JoJo found herself at Waterbury Animal Control with nowhere else to go. Knowing she would require extensive medical care, our friends at Waterbury Woof Pack CT reached out to us and asked if we could help.

Before JoJo came into our care, Waterbury Woof Pack coordinated and funded the veterinary care she urgently needed, including bloodwork, x-rays, a f***l test, treatment for a painfully ingrown nail, evaluation and treatment of an eye infection, and the medications prescribed by her veterinary team.

JoJo is now safe in a temporary foster home, spending her days with her foster sister, Lola. Despite everything she’s been through, she’s still a sassy old lady with plenty of opinions and absolutely no interest in acting her age.

But the truth is, JoJo is in pain.

Her mouth is in terrible condition, and she is living with severe dental disease every single day. We are currently waiting for the results of her bloodwork to determine whether it is safe for her to undergo anesthesia. As soon as we receive those results, her dental procedure will be scheduled.

The estimate starts at $2,500.

For JoJo, this isn’t cosmetic. This isn’t about bad breath. This is about pain. It’s about being able to eat comfortably. It’s about giving a senior dog relief after everything she has already been through.

We’re asking for help in two ways.

🐾 Meet the Harley’s Animal Haven Family 🐾

These are just a few of the faces that have made Harley’s Animal Haven what it is today. Some have found their forever homes, some are still searching, some are currently in foster care, and some have crossed the rainbow bridge, but every one of them has left a paw print on our hearts.

Harley’s Animal Haven is a foster-based rescue dedicated to giving animals a second chance through rescue, rehabilitation, adoption, and community support. From bottle babies and senior pets to reptiles, medical cases, and everything in between, we’re honored to be part of so many incredible journeys.

🚨 OUT OF STOCK WISHLIST ALERT 🚨

Our shelves are looking a little bare, and we’re hoping to restock some of the supplies we use every day for the animals in our care.

Right now, we’re especially running low on items used for:

🐾 Three growing kittens who have officially graduated from bottles and are now eating wet food

🐱 TJ as he continues his recovery journey

🦎 Griz, who is working on gaining weight and getting back to a healthy condition

These are just a few of the many animals currently in our care, but the supplies on this wishlist are items we’re actively using and need to replenish this week.

Harley’s Animal Haven primarily focuses on medically intensive and behaviorally disadvantaged animals, but as we always say...We will help any animal we have an open foster for. Whether it’s a recovering cat, an underweight bearded dragon, or a litter of hungry kittens, every animal deserves a chance.

⚔️🐾 Introducing Ryder Draconis 🐾⚔️

If his name sounds like it belongs in a fantasy novel, that’s because it does.

Meet Ryder Draconis, a seven-week-old adventurer who seems to have wandered straight out of a storybook and into our rescue. This tiny dragon-slayer-in-training was found all alone outside a convenience store in New Haven, proving that every great hero has an unexpected beginning.

Ryder may be small, but his personality is absolutely larger than life. He’s curious, fearless, endlessly entertaining, and somehow manages to turn every toy, blanket, and food dish into part of his latest quest. If there’s mischief to be found, Ryder will discover it. If there’s a laugh to be had, he’ll provide it.

For now, Ryder is focused on growing, learning, and causing just the right amount of chaos in foster care. He isn’t ready for adoption yet, but if all goes according to plan, he should be ready to start looking for his forever kingdom in about a month.

Until then, enjoy watching this hilarious little hero’s journey unfold. We have a feeling Ryder Draconis is going to collect plenty of fans along the way. 🖤🐱

🔔FOSTER NEEDED🔔

This handsome boy is living on the streets, and we are hoping to get him inside as soon as possible.

He is scared right now, which is completely understandable, but we strongly believe he is a friendly cat underneath it all. He just needs time, patience, and a safe place to decompress and learn that he no longer has to fend for himself.

Life on the streets is tough, and we’re looking for a dedicated foster who can give him the TLC he deserves while he settles in. A quiet space, consistent care, and a little compassion will go a long way in helping him become the cat we know he can be.

Every day outside is another day of uncertainty for this sweet boy. Help us give him the chance he deserves.

🚨 OFFICIAL STATEMENT FROM CHEF, CESAR & COBB 🚨

We have called an emergency meeting and would like to address a very serious issue.

Apparently our foster mom, who also happens to be the Executive Director, has been sick. 🤧

Now, while we are very sorry that she’s not feeling well, we would like to remind everyone that animal rescue does not stop just because a human has a stomach bug and Sinus Infection. The kittens still need to be admired. This is non-negotiable.

After careful consideration we have informed her that she needed to get her 💩 together and post us immediately.

Why?

Because we are adorable.
Because the public deserves to see us.
Because we have worked very hard on our cuteness.
Because keeping these faces off social media is frankly unacceptable.

So if you’ve noticed fewer updates, please know that we have taken corrective action and management has been notified.

We expect regular photo sessions, public appearances, and compliments effective immediately.

❤️‍🩹Today we’re asking for help❤️‍🩹

Harley’s Animal Haven is currently over $600 overdue at one of our primary veterinary partners, and donations have slowed significantly over the last few weeks. As a small, foster-based rescue, we don’t have large corporate sponsors or a massive donor base behind us. Every animal we save is possible because of people like you.

For those who may be new here, Harley’s Animal Haven is a foster-based rescue dedicated to helping animals of all kinds, with a special focus on medically intensive and behaviorally disadvantaged animals that often have nowhere else to turn. We take in the sick, the injured, the abandoned, the orphaned, and the overlooked because we believe every life deserves a chance.

Right now, we need our village.

Warmer weather means kitten season is in full swing. Every week brings new calls about abandoned litters, orphaned newborns, sick kittens, injured strays, and animals with nowhere else to go. We never know what emergency will come through our doors next, but we do know that we cannot continue saying “yes” without the support of our community.

At this moment, we owe over $600 to one of our primary veterinary partners. While that may not sound like a huge number to some, for a small rescue like ours it can be the difference between being able to say “yes” to the next animal in need or having to turn them away.
