October is Pregnancy and Infant Loss Awareness Month. We remember the babies gone too soon and hold space for all those who carry their memory.

Behind every loss is a family and a journey. Pregnancy and infant loss can be an isolating experience, but no one should have to navigate grief alone.

Every family deserves compassion, support, and the space to grieve in their own way. By sharing stories we are raising awareness, and breaking the silence surrounding pregnancy and infant loss to remind grieving families that they are not alone.

It’s diaper distribution day at Pioneer Family Success Center ! Connecting NJ has 80 families signed up to receive diapers, clothing, books, toys and more. Early childhood specialists, Family Connects NJ, and the NJ Postpartum Resources and Support Network are there to make sure every family is taken care of from birth to postpartum to early childhood development.

Welcome home, Velva!

Some leaders join an organization and learn its mission. Others return to a mission they've carried with them throughout their careers.

We are thrilled to welcome Velva Dawson as the new Chief Executive Officer of Central Jersey Family Health Consortium!

Dawson returns to CJFHC after nearly a decade at Johnson & Johnson, where she led foundation and corporate operations within Global Health Equity. Her expertise includes global giving strategy, organizational governance, cross-sector partnerships and social impact. She also brings a longstanding commitment to community-based maternal and child health, rooted in her earlier work at CJFHC.

For decades, CJFHC has worked alongside families, health care providers and community partners to improve maternal and child health across Central New Jersey. That mission has never been more important, and we're excited for the energy, experience and fresh perspective Velva brings to this next chapter.

As we welcome Velva, we also celebrate the extraordinary legacy of outgoing CEO Robyn D'Oria. Robyn's impact on maternal and infant health extends far beyond Central Jersey. From her early work with the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) to strengthen maternal mortality reviews, to helping develop national patient-safety practices that make childbirth safer, Robyn has spent her career turning public health research and policy into real improvements in care. Here in New Jersey, her leadership helped advance the state's Perinatal Quality Collaborative and bring innovative programs like Family Connects NJ to families in our communities. Her contributions have helped shape how we care for mothers, babies and families, and her legacy will continue to save lives for years to come.

We're deeply grateful for Robyn's leadership and excited to build on that legacy with Velva at the helm.

October is SIDS Awareness Month—a time to raise awareness, share lifesaving safe sleep practices, and support families affected by sudden infant loss.

The SIDS Center of New Jersey is also hosting a special series of webinars throughout October, covering safe sleep, bereavement, quality improvement, and the work of the SIDS Center. Learn More and Register at https://tinyurl.com/SIDS-Awareness-2026

Sudden Infant Death Syndrome (SIDS) can be devastating and unexpected. While not every case can be prevented, following recommended safe sleep practices can help reduce the risk of sleep-related infant deaths.

This month, help us spread the word:
🛏️ Place babies on their backs for every sleep.
👶 Keep the baby’s sleep space clear of pillows, blankets, bumpers, and toys.
🍼 Share a room, but not a bed, with your baby.
🚭 Keep your baby’s environment smoke-free.
❤️ Talk with other parents, caregivers, and families about safe sleep.

Our Healthy Families graduation on Friday, September 25 was a great success! Healthy Families had 12 graduates total, 8 graduates were in attendance, with 16 families and about 30 people joining us!

Families had the chance to share their experience through the Healthy Families program: some were supported through their parenting journey, some navigated early intervention and transitioned their children into elementary school with ongoing services, one mom became a first-time homebuyer, and another opened her own business!

We had a play area, a flower station, light refreshments, bracelet making, music, and time for families to connect and exchange numbers. We even had a visit from the one and only Mickey Mouse!

A very big thank you to Houlihan Lokey! Their continued and generous support and resources helped Healthy Families put together this amazing graduation.

Last but never least, a special shout out to our Healthy Families team for their hard work hard work with our families and community, and for all the decorations and event setup!
