Norfolk Alumnae Chapter-DST Norfolk Alumnae Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc.

Dedicated to sisterhood, scholarship, service, social action, we proudly serve the Norfolk, VA community through impactful programs and initiatives that inspire change and uplift lives. Norfolk Alumnae Chapter, formerly known as Mu Sigma was the first chapter of Delta Sigma Theta in Virginia. During the late 1920’s it was a rarity to find more than ten Deltas in one city, thus making it difficult to establish a graduate chapter. However, in Hampton, Newport News, and Norfolk, Virginia as well as Elizabeth City, North Carolina, there were eleven Delta graduates who were anxious to form a graduate chapter. Under the leadership of Soror Ethel Pannel, Mu Sigma Chapter was chartered in September 1929, in Norfolk where six of the eleven Deltas lived. It was chartered as a part of the Eastern Region because the South Atlantic Region had not yet been formed.

Our organizations have collaborated for this important forum to increase voter education and to encourage informed voter participation for the upcoming General Election on November 3, 2026. 

During the forum, you will be introduced to the candidates currently running for Norfolk City Council for Wards 1, 2, 3, 4, and 5, followed by a question-and-answer panel discussion. Get informed before casting your vote!

Sorors of the Norfolk Alumnae Chapter, Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. recently provided Voter Registration and information on Voter Rights at the Virginia Symphony Orchestra’s Community Play-In and Sing-Along which was held at Booker T. Washington High School.

The event provided an opportunity for sorors to connect with members of the community while sharing important information about the importance of every voice and every vote.

On Monday, October 5th, the Social Action Committee of the Norfolk Alumnae Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. was proud to host “A Conversation with Candidates: Norfolk School Board 2026” at First United Presbyterian Church in Norfolk, Virginia.
We were thrilled to welcome 7 candidates representing Wards 1 through 5, who shared their visions and answered crucial community questions to prepare voters for the upcoming General Election on November 3rd.
A heartfelt thank you to Pastor Thomas and First United Presbyterian Church in Norfolk, Virginia for hosting us, and to our moderator—our very own Soror Dr. Keela Boose of the Norfolk Alumnae Chapter—for leading an insightful, civically focused, and dynamic discussion.
