Norfolk Alumnae Chapter-DST Norfolk Alumnae Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc.

Dedicated to sisterhood, scholarship, service, social action, we proudly serve the Norfolk, VA community through impactful programs and initiatives that inspire change and uplift lives. Norfolk Alumnae Chapter, formerly known as Mu Sigma was the first chapter of Delta Sigma Theta in Virginia. During the late 1920’s it was a rarity to find more than ten Deltas in one city, thus making it difficult

to establish a graduate chapter. However, in Hampton, Newport News, and Norfolk, Virginia as well as Elizabeth City, North Carolina, there were eleven Delta graduates who were anxious to form a graduate chapter. Under the leadership of Soror Ethel Pannel, Mu Sigma Chapter was chartered in September 1929, in Norfolk where six of the eleven Deltas lived. It was chartered as a part of the Eastern Region because the South Atlantic Region had not yet been formed.

Back-to-School Support 🎒📚
The Norfolk Alumnae Chapter is proud to support local students through a generous back-to-school donation to ForKids, Inc.!

Our members donated 71 backpacks, each filled with essential school supplies, including pencils, pens, crayons, glue sticks, scissors, and notebooks, to help students start the new school year prepared to learn, grow, and succeed.

We are grateful for the opportunity to serve children and families in our community and make a meaningful difference where it matters most. ♥️

The Norfolk Alumnae Chapter was proud to volunteer at the Unity in the Community Back-to-School Celebration at Norfolk Scope!
Our chapter members supported local students and families throughout the event by:
🎒 Stuffing and distributing backpacks
📝 Managing the main registration table
➡️ Directing traffic along the backpack distribution line
🗳️ Providing voter registration services
🎁 Assisting with raffle prize distribution
We are grateful for the opportunity to serve, connect with our community, and help local families prepare for a successful school year. Together, we continue to make a difference through service, sisterhood, and community engagement!

Norfolk Alumnae is excited to kick off the 2026–2027 program year! After a summer of rest, reflection, and recharging, we’re ready to step into a new season—just like the beloved series A Different World.
And what better way to celebrate our new beginning than by making “A Different World” our official Roundup theme! 🎓✨
Join us on Saturday, August 29, 2026, from 12:00–3:00 p.m. at Music Theory Studios as we celebrate the rich legacy of Historically Black Colleges and Universities. Get ready to celebrate HBCU pride, campus life, unforgettable memories, and the sisterhood that connects us all.
