Scholarship Winner #1:
During a scholarship ceremony for the Newton High School’s graduating class, Senior Cera Steinwand was awarded a scholarship from the ATVFD. The award was presented by her father, Past Chief Joseph Steinwand.

Cera will attend Caldwell University in the fall, where she plans to major in Elementary Education and Psychology. During her time at Newton High School, she served as Captain of the Braves bowling team, earning numerous awards, being named to the All‑Academic Conference, and ranking among the Top 100 individual girls bowlers in the NJSIAA.

She will continue her athletic career on Caldwell’s NCAA Division II Bowling Team and will also be performing with the College Choir.

Congratulations, Cera! We wish you continued success as you begin the next chapter of your education.

**Tonight, Monday May 11, our department will be conducting a TRAINING EXERCISE otherwise known as a DRILL, at the Monestary of St. Paul's Abbey on Route 206. No cause for public alarm or concern. Please share our post to make the community aware. There will be no damage or harm done to the Monastery or property. We appreciate the property owners for allowing our members to train in a unique environment.

Congratulations Mike T***s! You were you a dedicated employee for Andover Township and also a helping hand to our department. We wish you nothing but the best in retirement. Its hard to imagine a winter without you - so many great memories full of laughs, tears, and shenanigans 🤪 Today was not goodbye, but rather, enjoy the free time you have to do all the things you have ever wanted to do without the worry of a callout. We know as a fellow brother firefighter, we will see you again soon. Congratulations T***sy!!

For 25 years, Mike T***s has been a loyal employee to Andover Township, and today we bid farewell to this legend of the Department of Public Works. Mike has served as the Union Shop Steward and has mentored and trained many employees during his tenure with us. To say he has seen it all is putting it mildly! He leaves us with fond memories, many laughs, sleepless nights and making sure that contract is followed word for word for his guys! It will be difficult to imagine the work day without him, and it goes without saying that we wish him nothing but the best in this new chapter! Even though we know you will visit often, you will be greatly missed... Congratulations Mike!

**Prescribed burns soon to begin in our area. This is the season for New Jersey Forest Fire Service to start preparing for their season. Below is a TENTATIVE schedule.. So please share, make yourself aware, and educate yourself. You will see and smell smoke in the area on the days they are in the parks and on state land.

Please keep the first responders in your prayers as they work a fully involved structure fire off Cove Hollow Court. Please be mindful if traveling in the area of the Andover Township municipal building, as that location is being used as a draft site. Our prayers go out to the family of this residence.

On Saturday, January 31, 2026, Gil Taglialatela was honored for five decades of distinguished ACTIVE service to the ATVFD, marking the second time the department has recognized this milestone, following the acknowledgment of Ex-Chief Bob Sipley. The department, the Mayor and Council of Andover Township, and NJ Senator Parker Space echoed the recognition.
