May is Emerald Ash Borer Awareness Month!

What is an emerald ash borer anyway? It's an invasive beetle that kills North American ash trees... and the bad news is that they were recently detected in Newport City and have been found in other areas in Vermont and our watershed.

But you can get resources and find information on how you can help here! https://www.vtinvasives.org/land/emerald-ash-borer-vermont

And stay tuned for more information coming your way.

Green Up Day was a success! Our small but mighty team collected 32 bags of trash and 25 tires along Clyde Pond off Crawford Rd and around the Clyde River! Among the trash we found a flat screen TV, mini fridge, bed frame, office chair, and a toilet. A big thank you to our volunteers and everyone that participated in Green Up Day across the state!

The Flood Safety Act and Beyond: Statewide and Local Efforts to Address Flooding in the Northeast Kingdom

Join regional organizations for a virtual conversation on Wednesday, February 4th at 6:00pm to hear about actions the state and local organizations are taking to reduce flood risk and protect our communities. This event will also provide information on Vermont’s Flood Safety Act, which is designed to address flood risk through a watershed-wide approach. Planning for resilience now is crucial in preventing further loss of life and property in future storms. This event will help towns and community members understand what the implementation of statewide river corridor protections means for their town and provide time to answer questions related to the Act.

All community members are welcome and encouraged to attend!
Please register in advance of this meeting and a link to join will be provided to your email.

Agenda:
6:00pm – Introductions from presenting organizations
6:30pm – Background, details, and timeline of the Flood Safety Act,
7:00pm – Q&A
7:30pm – End

Register for this online conversation here: https://bit.ly/fsa-nek

Partner organizations for this event include: Northeast Vermont Development Association, Memphremagog Watershed Association, Caledonia, Orleans, and Essex County Natural Resource Conservation Districts, Connecticut River Conservancy, The Nature Conservancy, and Lake Champlain Sea Grant.
