We extend our thoughts and prayers the brothers and sisters of the Cincinnati Fire Fighters Union Local 48, as well as Ryan’s family and friends during this difficult time.

It is with heavy hearts that we share the passing of Cincinnati Fire Fighter Ryan Zwick, who courageously battled occupational cancer.

Ryan dedicated his life to serving the citizens of Cincinnati and standing alongside his Brothers and Sisters in the fire service. His strength, professionalism, and commitment to others will not be forgotten.

Today, we ask our members, retirees, families, and community to keep Ryan's loved ones, friends, and fellow fire fighters in your thoughts and prayers during this incredibly difficult time.

Occupational cancer remains one of the greatest threats facing the fire service. Ryan's passing is a heartbreaking reminder of the sacrifices fire fighters continue to make long after the fire is out.

Congratulations to the students awarded the John T. Robinson IAFF Local 45 Scholarship:

• Reagan Peddicord – Local 45 family recipient

• Emily Temaj – Newport High School

• Samantha Twehues – Newport Central Catholic High School

One student was selected from each high school, along with one student from a Local 45 family. Students who applied from the schools were chosen through a non-biased selection process conducted by the Newport Intermediate School Family Resource Center.

Each student is awarded a $1,000 scholarship, distributed in two payments throughout the school year. Special thanks to Secretary, Tyler Watson for coordinating and running the scholarship program!

Tonight, the members of Newport Professional Firefighters Local 45 had the honor of teaming up with Santa to deliver Christmas gifts to the children in our community! There's no better feeling than seeing those smiles and knowing we could bring a little extra magic to our neighbors this holiday season. Serving Newport goes far beyond emergency calls, it's about being there for our community in every way we can.
