Every year, Newport Professional Firefighters Local 45 holds a bowling tournament.
A lot of people probably see it as just another fundraiser. They see the flyers, the sponsorships, the bowling, and the firefighters having a good time.
But the bowling tournament isn't really what we're doing.
It's how we raise the money to do something much more important.
Every Christmas, there are families right here in Newport who are struggling to provide Christmas for their children. Through our Beyond the Call program, Newport firefighters step in to help make sure those kids aren't forgotten.
On Christmas Eve, we load up a fire truck and deliver gifts and food to local families. We knock on their door and bring Christmas to them.
We've been doing this since 1993. Over the years, Beyond the Call has helped 477 children from 120 Newport families, with more than $65,000 going directly toward making Christmas a little brighter for kids in our community.
That's why we ask for your support.
When you sponsor our bowling tournament, make a donation, or simply share this post, you're not really helping us pay for a bowling tournament.
You're helping make sure a child has something to open on Christmas morning.
Maybe it's the toy they've been asking for all year.
Maybe it's the first real Christmas their family has been able to give them.
Maybe it's simply knowing that someone in their community cared enough to make sure they were not forgotten.
You don't have to be a business. You don't have to make a large donation. Every contribution helps us reach another child.
