Marlo is a powerhouse HR strategist whose career spans over two decades across higher education, government, and the nonprofit sector. Currently serving as the Director of Human Resources at Community Alternatives, Inc., Marlo is a champion for the disability services community, building environments where both the organization and its people can thrive.

Why Marlo is a Workforce Readiness Visionary: Marlo doesn’t just lead HR... she teaches it.

The Educator: For 16+ years, she has served as an adjunct instructor at Tidewater Community College, shaping the next generation of professionals.

The Advocate: As a former military spouse, she has dedicated herself to supporting transitioning service members through executive training and career development.

The Leader: With a Master’s in HR Management from Troy University and past leadership roles with Hampton Roads SHRM and the YWCA, Marlo brings a wealth of institutional knowledge to our board.

What an incredible morning yesterday! Peninsula Chapter of SHRM (PenSHRM) and the Virginia Peninsula Chamber teamed up for "Beyond the Paycheck," and the energy in the room was electric.

We dove deep into the reality of the 2026 talent market. The biggest takeaway? In a world of five generations in the workforce, "gut feeling" benefits strategies just don’t cut it anymore. The employers winning the talent war are the ones using data to drive their decisions.
