⚽️🥅🙌🏼What a great night of service and community partnership! 🍻⚽️

Members of the Rotary Club of Newport News were proud to volunteer at the soccer match at Townebank Stadium on the campus of Christopher Newport University, helping serve beer and sell raffle tickets in support of Lions Bridge and their incredible mission in our community.

Service Above Self isn’t just a motto, it’s showing up, supporting local nonprofits and Lionsbridge FC, and having fun while making a difference. Thank you to everyone who volunteered, donated, and came out to support such a meaningful cause!

We had a great Rotary Club of Newport News meeting on Tuesday with Scott Martin sharing his passion and vision for the future of Fort Monroe Fort Monroe National Monument.

It was inspiring to hear about the opportunities, preservation efforts, and long-term vision for such a historic and important part of our community. Scott’s knowledge, leadership, and enthusiasm for what’s ahead gave us all an exciting look at what the future of Fort Monroe could become.

Meet Patty Heath - State Farm Agent, longtime Rotarian, Past President and Past Area Governor of the Newport News Rotary Club, and a dedicated State Farm Agent who lives by her mom’s words:

“If you are going to do something, do it right.”

Patty says Rotary has brought her lifelong friendships and a deep sense of community:

“We become attached to our Rotarian friends because we share a common goal of caring about our community and our world. It’s enjoyable to spend time with like-minded people.”

📣 Guest Speaker Spotlight: O. Kate Scott, President & CEO of VCEE

This week, we were honored to welcome O. Kate Scott, President & Chief Executive Officer of the Virginia Council on Economic Education (VCEE), to speak at our Rotary meeting. 🙌

VCEE supports a statewide network of university-based Centers for Economic Education, equipping teachers with professional development, classroom materials, and ongoing support in partnership with local school divisions. 💡📚

Kate shared powerful insights on the real-world consequences children face when they grow up without financial education—from struggling to manage debt to missing opportunities for long-term financial stability. Her message was a powerful reminder that financial literacy is not just a skill… it’s a life foundation.

💬 “If we want financially responsible adults, we must start with financially educated children,” she emphasized.

We are grateful to Kate for her passion, leadership, and commitment to empowering Virginia’s students with financial knowledge that will impact them for a lifetime. 💙💛

🌿 Throwback Thursday! 💙
Before THRIVE Peninsula opened its beautiful new location, our Rotarians rolled up their sleeves to help paint, build planters, and get the space ready to serve families across the Peninsula.

It was incredible to see everyone come together for a day of teamwork, laughter, and service, all to support an organization that gives so much to our neighbors in need.

We can’t wait to be back at Thrive on Saturday, October 18th (9am–12pm) to volunteer in their Community Grocery Market! 🛒✨

🛌 Building Beds, Building Hope 🛌

Today, our Rotarian members and our NexGen Rotary partnered with Sleep in Heavenly Peace Sleep in Heavenly Peace - VA, Hampton through a special Rotary grant to ensure the children of our community sleeps in beds. 🛏️💙

Together, we rolled up our sleeves with the national Bunks Across America initiative, cutting, sanding, and assembling bunk beds that will soon bring comfort, dignity, and sweet dreams to children right here in Hampton Roads.

Rotary believes in “Service Above Self,” and today that meant turning lumber into love, and teamwork into tangible change.

🙌 Thank you to all our volunteers, community partners, and friends who made this day possible. Because of you, children in our community will sleep in heavenly peace tonight.
