Project Grow People and Nature Growing Together! The work has a way of turning itself inward. We restore ourselves, our sense of purpose, by restoring the place around us.

We are a group of ordinary peopleโ€”professionals, homemakers, students, and retireesโ€”joined by a common concern for our environment. Participating in restoration work in Upper Newport Bay provides volunteers with the opportunity for respite and renewal, away from the stresses of southern Californiaโ€™s highly urbanized environment.

๐ŸŒฑ Small progress can lead to big environmental news.

Our program provides environmental education through the lens of habitat restoration, helping our community understand how local action can create meaningful change for the environment.

But we also know that restoration is just one piece of the bigger picture. We value the good environmental news happening all around us because every positive step, no matter how small, contributes to a healthier planet. ๐ŸŒŽ

This month, weโ€™re highlighting a few pieces of good environmental news that remind us that positive change is happening:

๐Ÿซ Schoolyards are becoming climate-friendly community spaces
๐Ÿ  The Great Barrier Reef is getting a little relief
๐Ÿพ Cougar kittens have been spotted in Minnesota for the first time in over 100 years
๐ŸŒณ Amazon deforestation has reached a 13-year low
๐Ÿ“š Librarians are working to preserve national park history

These stories may seem different, but they all have something in common: progress is possible.

We hope these stories inspire you to celebrate the wins, stay curious, and remember that every step toward a healthier planet matters. ๐Ÿ’š

Youโ€™ve might have heard us say Riparian and Coastal Sage Shrub (CSS) before but what do they actually mean??? ๐Ÿค”๐ŸŒฒ๐Ÿ’ง

Well, hereโ€™s a post to explain the similarities and differences between the 2! Both are important in supporting the native plants and animals in our project sites!

What have we been up to in the meantime? Weโ€™ve been continuing removing invasive plants and supporting native ones!!! Regardless if we have a small and big group, overcast or warm weather, we keep making room for native plants to grow!!! ๐Ÿช ๐Ÿชด ๐Ÿงค
