This past Saturday (06/06), the NAC/Makapo Para Outrigger Team competed at the Kahanamoku Klassic at Mother’s Beach in Marina del Rey.

Race day was filled with teamwork, determination, and the support that makes our paddling ʻohana so special. From early morning preparations to crossing the finish line together, our athletes demonstrated the resilience and spirit that define adaptive paddling.

Mahalo to our paddlers, supporters, and partner clubs who helped make the day unforgettable. We are proud to represent the adaptive paddling community both on and off the water. 🌺🤙

Mahalo to everyone who joined us for Beat the Heat with Casa Colina on May 28! Over 40 individuals with spinal cord injuries, caregivers, and family members came together for a day of paddling, connection, and fun on the water.

We would also like to extend our sincere gratitude to Move United, The Craig H. Neilsen Foundation, Billy Whitford, and the US Sailing Center for their generous support in helping make this event possible. Their commitment to adaptive recreation and accessibility continues to create opportunities for individuals of all abilities to get out on the water and thrive.

Thank you to everyone who participated, volunteered, and supported this incredible collaboration. We look forward to many more opportunities to paddle together!

Aloha Makapo ʻOhana! 🌊

Registration is now open for our Inclusive Outrigger Paddling Camp this summer at Newport Aquatic Center!

This fun-filled 3-day camp is open to keiki ages 7 and up and includes outrigger paddling, crafts, a field trip, and an ʻOhana Day celebration. Come out, make new friends, build confidence, and enjoy time on the water with the Makapo ʻohana.

2026 Camp Sessions:

July 13, 15, 17
August 3, 5, 7

We had such a meaningful day sharing the joy of paddling, connection, and community with Casa Colina members. Seeing everyone come together, try something new, and experience the water with confidence is exactly why we do this work.

Aloha Makapo ʻOhana! 🌊

On 04/29, we had the honor of partnering with the Long Beach VA to bring veterans with low vision and disabilities out on the water at Newport Aquatic Center. This was our second time hosting this paddling experience, and we had so much fun sharing the joy of outrigger together.

Mahalo to the Long Beach VA for partnering with us and helping bring out participants, and thank you to our funders, Move United and the Veterans Administration, for making opportunities like this possible!
