Friends of the Shelter Foundation We are a foster-based non-profit dog and cat rescue in central Oklahoma dedicated to helping rural O We're also the official Rottweiler rescue for the state.

Our foster-based rescue (no facility) focuses on saving all breeds of dogs and cats, mixed or purebred, that are in need in Oklahoma rural shelters. All of the animals in our care live in foster homes with families so they can learn basic training and manners. Every pet is spayed/neutered, fully vaccinated, dewormed, microchipped and kept on monthly flea, tick and heartworm preventative. Many of t

he pets we rescue are medical cases, and that can get expensive at times but we never turn a pet away if we know a little TLC and Vet care can save its life. Our mission is to save the ones that would never set foot outside the walls of a shelter: those that are sick, injured or overlooked due to breed discrimination, size or color.

At Friends of the Shelter Foundation, our rescue network is built entirely out of cozy living rooms, sunny spots on kitchen floors, and incredible community volunteers! Because we are 100% foster-based, every single dog and cat we save goes straight into a real home where they get to learn how to be a beloved family pet. 🏡✨

But while the love our fosters give is completely free, the logistics behind the scenes carry real costs. Our rescue covers 100% of the medical care, food, and supplies for every pet in our system. Right now, we are facing some tight financial hurdles, and our bank account is feeling a heavy squeeze.

🐾 Wednesday Words of Wisdom from Friends of the Shelter Foundation! 🐾

As a foster-based rescue, we don't have a shelter building to maintain. Instead, our animals are cared for in loving foster homes throughout our community.

While that saves us the cost of a facility, it doesn't save us from our biggest expense: veterinary care.

Every animal that comes into our rescue needs medical care before they can find a forever home. Some need only routine vetting, while others require much more extensive treatment.

Here are just a few of the costs we face every day:

🐾 Puppy/Kitten Vaccine Series: $60–$100+

🐾 Spay/Neuter Surgery: $50–$150+

🐾 Heartworm Treatment: $500–$1,200+

🐾 Microchips & Preventatives: $20–$100+

These expenses add up quickly, and every dollar donated helps us continue saying "yes" to animals in need.

Hi, friends! 👋

It turns out our Social Media Volunteer has all the impulse control of a Jack Russell Terrier that just spotted a squirrel and is about as easy to restrain as a Belgian Malinois who has decided it has Important Business elsewhere.
