The New York Youth Animal Science team is thrilled to announce the launch of the third year of the NYS Animal and Agricultural Leadership (AAL) Program — a statewide opportunity for high school students entering at least their sophomore year.

Program Highlights:
• Four two-day sessions held throughout the year
• Interactive experiences across multiple animal science disciplines
• Networking and mentorship opportunities
• Skill-building in leadership, planning, and communication
Application Deadline: September 1
Selections will be made based on each applicant's essay, demonstrated interest, and a personal reference.
Program Fee: $100 per student for the year (Wayne Count 4-H can cover for Wayne County 4-Hers)

Don't forget!!

Poultry Youth !!! If you are showing poultry at the Wayne County Fair they all need to be tested! Sign-up by June 1st!!!!

Specifics: As you know, all poultry except doves, pigeons, and waterfowl must have a negative pullorum test result or be from a pullorum negative certified flock or hatchery.

Here are the requirements for pullorum clinics to keep in mind:

-All animals should be secured in cages or a crate for transport and while in line to be tested.
-Previous pullorum legs bands should NOT be cut off as they can be reused for this years testing. The exception to this is if the band was lost or if it now too small for the bird’s leg.
-Please have the families check (and treat if applicable) the legs and under the feathers of the birds for leg mites and lice NOW so that it will hopefully be resolved by the time the clinic rolls around. Birds found to severely infested may be excused due to anemia and biosecurity concerns.
-Families should ideally keep their birds away from another families birds (for example leave in or near their car) in case of a non negative test is seen on a bird. It is also for this reason you should ideal schedule your pullorum clinic at least one month in advance of your fair. A non negative bird can be tested again in one month to see if the bird can clear the infection from its system and test negative in a re-test, allowing it to then show/attend fair.

Here is the link to the pullorum clinic and the poster is attached as well! If you have questions please reach out to Kailey!
