On Thursday, we’re delighted to welcome Carolyn Louth and her contemplative artmaking to the W83 Gallery. Her solo exhibit, “Re/collecting,” offers new perspectives on old clothes and explores memory, meaning, and mortality. Equal parts word and image, this exhibit invites viewers to reflect on their own belongings—and to reconsider what’s kept in their closets.
Carolyn Louth grew up in a small town near New Orleans and earned a BFA in the arts from Louisiana State University. After graduating, she moved to Atlanta, where she joined the creative team at HowStuffWorks and also started playing ultimate frisbee. In 2005, she moved to New York and, as a freelance art director, designed print and digital materials for clients across many fields. A desire to focus her work on sustainability and advocacy efforts led her to complete the IMPACT! Design for Social Change residency program at the School of Visual Arts in 2013. She has moved eleven times in Manhattan and has had to reckon with her “collections” at every change of address.
