Gethsemane is a site-specific dance performance that activates the architecture of the W83 Ministry Center through contemporary choreography and original music across its sanctuary and balcony spaces. This innovative experience will allow audience members, seated on the stage, to encounter beauty and contemplation through witnessing the body in motion, revealing the sanctuary space in intimate and unexpected ways. Gethsemane is a continuation of Lindsey Hanson’s series called The Sanctuary Project, which originated at Redeemer West Side in 2021.

This performance is directed and choreographed by Lindsey Hanson in collaboration with the dancers and the creative team, led by Director of Photography Jonny Yepez and Production Manager Ashe Villas Boas. With an original score composed by Rev. Jonathan Gabhart, this live show features New York City’s leading dance artists.

The show is approximately 30 minutes long. Tickets are free, but reservations are required for the performances due to limited seating.

“Why do I keep what is no longer worn…and how do I let go?”

Carolyn Louth artfully addresses this question, drawing on her experience as a founding team member of Here to Honor and as a professional creative. Through word and image, “Re/collecting” invites viewers to reflect on their own attachments—and to reconsider what’s kept in their closets.

Join us as we explore memory, meaning, and mortality through what was worn. Reserve your free tickets now for “Re/collecting” by Carolyn Louth.

Step into the W83 gallery and experience “The Gilded Hours.” Come in, cool off, and take in these elegant works by Hannah Robinett—on view through Sunday, August 16.

“The Gilded Hours” references the historical tradition of the Book of Hours—medieval manuscripts created to provide structure and devotion through daily life. For nearly a decade, Robinett has studied the art and traditions of illuminated manuscripts, finding inspiration in their quiet rituals and careful craftsmanship. Through the repeated process of screen printing, the delicate application of gold leaf, and the slow, hand-built construction of each work, her practice becomes a form of reflection.

While centuries separate us from the makers of the original medieval manuscripts, the essential questions remain unchanged. How do we create meaning from uncertainty? How do we restore ourselves after rupture? How do we find stillness amid the relentless movement of daily life?

Have you spotted the newest art piece at W83 yet?

Last month, Naomi Lawrence led a fiber arts workshop where participants learned to crochet colorful squares. Throughout May, folks from W83 and Redeemer West Side contributed unique crochet pieces, which Naomi wove together into an adorable new addition for the lobby.

Stop by the W83 Ministry Center and see how our community’s creativity came together one stitch at a time. 🧶
