Lucked out and had a beautiful Saturday at the field. Sundays weather held out long enough for the horse event to take place. This weekend is New Hampton Heartland Days and there is a flying event in Lone Tree, Iowa that some club members will attend. If you want to see an awesome show and you don’t mind the drive, head to Lone Tree! You won’t be disappointed. (Pics are from Saturday the 6th).

The airport grounds sure do look nice this time of year. Everything is green and well maintained. Saturday there will be several R/C pilots flying starting around midday. On Sunday there is a horse event at the arena, so any pilots who choose to fly Sunday during the horse event must only fly electric or glow powered models, no gas engines while the event is being held. Also check out the Freedom Run Dog Park located on the airport grounds. So much cool stuff to see and do, come check it out!

Windy and rainy this weekend, but the long Memorial Day weekend was pretty good for flying. Never forget those who gave their lives for this county and our freedom!

Congratulations to our club Safety Officer Jack van der Meer on the successful maiden flight of his brand new Elite Aerosports Rayzr on Saturday. The model is powered by a King Tech K240 G5 turbine, guided by Jeti radio gear and has Cortex Pro stabilization. Great job Jack.

Hugo Groenewald got in a few buddy box turbine flights with a fellow club members Hangar 9 MB-339. Smooth flying Hugo!

It was a frosty start to the day in Oelwein at the Young Eagles event. About 10 full scale planes took approximately 80 kids for airplane rides. These pilots donated their time, fuel and hours on their airplanes to get kids in the air for free! We had 3 Crossed Signals members flying and displaying model airplanes and helicopters. It was a lot of fun and the kids, parents, grandparents and guardians really seemed to enjoy our models. Huge shout out to everyone at the Oelwein Airport and the EAA Chapter 227 for your amazing hospitality. Hope to do it again next year!

Do you know a youngster who would like a free airplane ride? The EAA Chapter 227 will be hosting a couple Young Eagles events in our area. These events can spark a lifelong love of aviation and inspire young people to follow careers in aerospace technology. The Crossed Signals Model Aircraft Club will be at the Oelwein event on Saturday the 2nd from 8-noon. We’ve been invited for a second year in a row to fly and displaying model aircraft at the Oelwein Airport. Come on out and explore the world of general aviation as well as model aviation, the kids are sure to love it. And the best part? It’s FREE!
