Alpha Zeta’s Summer OUTING to Cresco!
Thursday, June 18, 2026
Members who attended: Kristy B., Rachel F., Kim H., Carol H., Dee L., Lynn R., and Janice S.

The Alpha Zeta sisters had the best time together in Cresco! 🌸 We kicked off our day with a 1-hour guided tour at the Plantpeddler, checking out the incredible nurseries, looking at the setup for fall plants and poinsettias, and learning how they provide full-service floral and garden care to their retail customers. The highlight for me was discovering that Plantpeddler hosts comprehensive summer and peak-season internships for students worldwide, offering global applicants hands-on experience in a large-scale, commercial greenhouse production and top-tier operations!

Catching up over a wonderfully relaxed, conversational lunch at FAT T’S Café was just what we needed! Good food and great company.

A journey into the past brought us to the Kellow House, where we were guided by Jan Strike, a dedicated member of the Cresco Historical Society. Though she mentioned this 1880 Empire-style residence is still a work in progress, its curated period photographs, artifacts, wallpaper, and furnishings offer a realistic glimpse into its history. From climbing its narrow front and back staircases to admiring the décor, touring the interior of this beautiful home was a delightful experience.

Our trip also took us to Cresco’s Beadle Park to see the log cabin. Jan's key unfortunately didn't open the door to the cabin, but we were still able to get a look by peeking through the windows. While we didn't make it to the Old Stone Church, Jan shared an informational pamphlet and document she authored and spoke of the historic, abandoned ruins of St. John's German Lutheran Church near Ridgeway.

I think a good day was had by all,

The recent meetings of Alpha Zeta of ADK were very informative. In February Nikki Dreckman from St. Croix Hospice presented while in March Theresa Jenkins from Hope For Life shared information about the Charles City location. https://www.hopeforlifepc.com/ Both are important agencies available to clients in the New Hampton area.
