Tonight's travels takes us to the Ohio River and one of the riverboats that helped to grow Port William (now Carrollton).

The Hattie Brown was built in 1884 in Belle Vernon, Pennsylvania to carry freight and passengers from Warsaw, Kentucky to Madison, Indiana. She stopped twice daily at Ghent and Carrollton's docks. In 1915, this boat was damaged in a storm near Carrollton but was refitted and continued service. She was then destroyed by ice in the Ohio. She was then rebuilt and renamed the Vim.

So, if you wouldn't mind hitting the like button and typing a comment that we can write a response we would greatly appreciate it 🙂

Remember the money raised from fb is money we use to help pay for part of the cost of our home food delivery program.

We hope you enjoyed today's travels.

We understand many people want to get good deals but please don't ask us to mark down our prices. Not to long ago someone offered to pay $10.00 for a new item that retails for $60.00. We explained no, it was already well under half price ($22.00). Her response was - how about $15.00? No, prices are as marked. We already sell brand new tshirts, shoes and pants for as low as $3.00 an item - something you don't see much of any more. We can't discount further and be able to pay our bills let alone help the community.

Our Thrift Shop, Inc. is where a portion of our funding comes from. We don't get discounts from LG&E or KU for the lights and heat. We also don't get discounts for our water, sewer, trash or insurance (in fact, our insurance has gone up over $10,000 a year in the last two years). Please don't ask us to give you a discount on new with original price tag items. The majority of those new with price tag items we purchase at wholesalers and drive up to eight hours to pick the items up. While our volunteers donate their time the wholesalers we purchase from don't donate the products, the gas station doesn't donate the gas, insurance on the vehicles isn't free and when vehicles need repairs or tires those aren't free either. You wouldn't go to other stores and ask for cheaper prices so why would you ask for us to reduce our prices when our new items are already half of suggested retail. Remember the non-profit uses ALL of its net proceeds to help those in the community in need. I apologize if I sound rude but I'm getting tired of people seeing our prices, asking for us to cut the price in half again (making it 75% or more off retail) and then pull out a fifty or hundred to pay for that item. Doing that hurts the rest of the community who relies upon our assistance programs being funded.

We are people helping people and together we are working to make our community better one person at a time.

Good morning everyone. As many of you may recall last week we talked about a veteran being stranded with a broken down vehicle. We paid for the diagnostic testing. Another agency paid for temporary housing. (Veteran was out of town visiting family when the vehicle broke down on the return trip.)

Well, we now know what is wrong with the vehicle and the cost to make the repairs. The veteran doesn't have the money to pay for the repairs. The veteran does need to come home and uses the vehicle to go to regular doctors appointments at the VA. So leaving the vehicle is not an option.

Let's see if we can't do some magic and make these repairs happen (bill attached for $892.68).

If you would like to help this veteran get home with their vehicle you may use our PayPal at: https://www.paypal.com/donate/?hosted_button_id=RZZ2U6MVEX2Y2
