Hazel's in New Castle opened right on time despite the fire last night that destroyed the two buildings next door and caused the road to be closed off. At lunchtime, their usually filled dining room had less than a handful of diners, most were likely unsure if they would be open for business.

Then there's Connie of Connerly's Dry Cleaners. She wasn't aware of last night's fire until 6:30 this morning when a call woke her up to inform her of what happened.

Her building has been standing for about 150 years, and it's been home to her business for over 40 years. But Connie was most concerned with her customers' clothing, including 40 band uniforms cleaned and pressed and ready to deliver. Luckily her building did not sustain much damage and she was able to open and run her business as usual, with just a few interruptions by news crews and curious passersby, and multiple calls from friends and family.

That's how this works sometimes. The fire doesn't have to touch you to affect you. If you're in the area this week, stop in. Grab lunch at Hazel's Restaurant. Drop something off at Connerly's. Let's support our local businesses.

Do you know what pairs well with a sunny day? Or honestly… just about any day? The outrageous flavor pack from Koehler Brewing Company in Ellwood City, PA. 🍻

Originally founded in 1847 in Erie, Pennsylvania, Koehler Brewing carries with it a long-standing tradition rooted in craftsmanship, community, and bringing people together over a good beer.

Today, owners Bruce and Bryan Koehler continue that legacy, blending history with bold new flavors that have become a staple across Western Pennsylvania.

Last week, alongside our sister chamber at the Ellwood City Area Chamber of Commerce, we gathered for a business after hours event that felt less like networking and more like neighbors coming together. Sales Manager Nick Perry shared the story behind the brewery’s growth, with distribution now stretching from Erie County all the way to Washington County. Guests sampled everything from blueberry ales and blood orange brews to the classic Amber Ale. They also got to sneak a tour of the production area.

You can visit Koehler Brewing’s brew pub at 130 Wampum Avenue in Ellwood City, where the atmosphere is just as inviting as the beer itself. From trivia nights to live music and community gatherings, it’s become a place where people connect as much as they unwind. You can also find them at Wander Ellwood!
