After devastating flooding caused extensive damage to Howard R. Smith American Legion Post 137 in New Castle, Indiana, we are asking for help rebuilding the place our veterans and community have called home for generations.

Our Post has always believed in being there when our veterans and community need us.

Today, we need you.

Every donation brings us one step closer to reopening our doors and continuing our mission of supporting the 4 pillars of the Legion, serving veterans, their families, and our community.

We are very sad to share this, but we have lost another one of our brothers. He has assumed his post, guarding heaven's streets.

Lacy Morris was one of a kind, and a Marine to his core! Proud member of this Post, VFW Post 1282, and, of course, the Honor Guard. Please keep his family in your prayers.

Lacy N. Morris passed away on August 30th, 2026. He was born March 18th, 1946, to the late William and Hattie Morris. He was preceded in death by his sister, Barbara Glass, and brothers William, Walter, and John Morris. Lacy accepted Christ at an early age at Baptist Temple Church

From the Commander -

We are asking for any and all help we can get for Saturday, August 29th. If you can come out for any amount of time, we would truly appreciate it!

We are doing our best to get back to the business of helping Veterans and their families. We are at the stage of getting things inside put back together.

We have had lots of help so far, and we are getting closer. We will provide lunch amd drinks for all who can help.

Thanks to all involved, we could not do this without you!

The work continues! At this time, we have been cleared to get back in and get after it.

If you would like to drop by this evening and see what you can do, you're more than welcome.

Tomorrow, we'd like to give one more big demo push. There's still a lot of work ahead.

We appreciate all of the hard work that has been done so far. It's been an extraordinary effort by all. We will be back on our feet as soon as possible!

From the Commander -

First, I can't thank the membership enough for the hard and tireless work to get they have been putting in. It has been incredible.

Earlier today, we were asked to make sure everyone stays out of the Post, as Jett Restoration is in the final stages of their cleanup. As soon as they give us the all clear, which should be tomorrow, we should be clear to get back to it. I appreciate everyone's patience.

Second, this Sunday, 2:30, the general membership meeting will be held at the VFW. They have opened their doors to us, and I am grateful. This is going to be a very important meeting, as we have to discuss the next steps of the Post. This has been a tragic set of events, and we will come back stronger.

If anyone has any questions or needs anything, please reach out. There are still many in the community that need us.

Tonight's Treasure Map and 50/50 drawings will be postponed until further notice. We apologize for the inconvenience, but I believe everyone understands.

If you normally come by the Post on Monday, I would encourage you to stop by the VFW or the Eagles. They will be accepting on valid AL/SAL/AUX membership until we get back on our feet.

Much thanks to both organizations. That is what community and fellowship is all about!
