It was named for Louis Palmer Slade, who was principal of New Britain High School for 25 years (1913-1938). It was the first school building in New Britain designed and built specifically to provide an education program for pupils from 12-15 years of age. It was designed to serve as a community center for large and small group meetings, public performances and recreation. After considerable resear
ch on the middle school concept, in September 1977, the school opened as the present Slade Middle School. The school continues to service the needs and interests of its students. Slade Middle School opened its doors to a new year and a brand new wing with state of the art science and computer labs. Today, the Slade PTO strives to continue serving the Slade Community which consists of the Administration, Teachers, Students and Parents/Guardians, Grandparents, Aunts/Uncles, etc as well as local businesses in our community.
