As a service organization, our goal is to support veterans, active-duty military, their families and other causes/organizations that promote veteran awareness and community. We regularly organize fund-raising events or volunteer our time/resources to help those in need. True to the Legion's grassroots tradition, each chapter manages its programs at the post level, where the best ideas are born. The Riders are part of many projects and events, including:
Rolling Thunder, the annual POW/MIA rally in Washington on Memorial Day weekend. Annual regional rides such as Operation Wounded Warrior, sponsored by Riders in Nevada, Texas, New Mexico, Utah, Arizona, California and other Western states. Local charity events in support of The American Legion and local communities. Raising money for VA hospitals, women and children centers, children and youth centers, schools and other facilities. Sponsoring or participating in motorcycle runs to benefit numerous charities. The American Legion Legacy Run, an annual cross-country fundraising ride from National Headquarters in Indianapolis to the national convention city. Riding to honor fallen military men and women, and to protect the sanctity of their funerals from those who would dishonor their memory. Escorting military units to departure airfields and airports for combat tours overseas, and welcoming them home upon their return.

Before the barriers were broken, they stepped forward.

On Women Veterans Day, we honor the generations of women who answered the call to serve our nation with courage, determination, and sacrifice. These historic images remind us that women have always been part of America's military storyโ€”even when their contributions were too often overlooked.

Today, we celebrate the over 2 million women veterans and the fastest-growing group of veterans.

Tag a woman veteran you'd like to honor today!

๐Ÿ‡บ๐Ÿ‡ธ 82 years D-DAY REMEMBRANCE, JUNE 6, 1944 ๐Ÿ‡บ๐Ÿ‡ธ
On this day in 1944, thousands of brave American soldiers stormed the beaches of Normandy in one of the most heroic operations in history. Under relentless fire and impossible odds, they pressed forward with courage, duty, and a belief in a freer world.

Dโ€‘Day became a turning point in World War II and helped begin the liberation of Europe from tyranny. The sacrifices made on those shores were immense. Many never returned home โ€” but their bravery changed the course of history.

Today, we honor the heroes of Dโ€‘Day.
We remember their courage, the families who waited for them, and the freedom they fought to protect. Their legacy lives on in every generation blessed by the world they helped shape.

Lest we forget.
All Gave Some. Some Gave All.
Forever Honored. Never Forgotten. ๐Ÿ‡บ๐Ÿ‡ธ

Memorial Day is not Veterans Day with a barbecue pit.

It is not โ€œthank you for your serviceโ€ weekend.

It is not a mattress sale, boat sale, beer commercial, or three-day excuse to act like we invented freedom because we bought hamburger meat.

Memorial Day is for the ones who did not come home.

Most veterans I know do not want the spotlight on Memorial Day. They do not want the extra attention. They do not want to be treated like the day is about them, because they know exactly who it is about.

It is about the empty chair.

The folded flag.

The name on the wall.

The boots that never walked back through the door.

The spouse who got a knock instead of a phone call.

The kids who grew up hearing stories instead of getting hugs.

There is a scene in Reign of Fire after the dragon fight where everyone starts celebrating, and the response is basically: donโ€™t celebrate yet, we lost people.

That is the point.

You can grill. You can ride. You can spend time with family. You can enjoy the freedoms they paid for.

But do not forget the price tag.

This weekend is not about living veterans.

It is about the ones who gave everything so the rest of us could have a weekend at all.

Remember them.

Say their names.

Respect the silence.
