A lot of people have heard the word CASA but genuinely don’t understand what volunteering looks like. I’d make tomorrow about one child + one consistent adult.

Something along these lines:

A CASA doesn’t have to fix everything.

You don’t take a child home.
You don’t become their therapist.
You don’t have to know all the answers.

You get to know one child’s story.
You listen.
You ask questions.
You speak up when something isn’t right.
And most importantly—you keep showing up.

For a child whose life may be changing constantly, being the person who keeps showing up matters.

One child. One voice. One consistent adult.

Then end with your New-Mac CASA contact information and the invitation to just ask questions.

“I’d love to help… but I just don’t have the time.”

We hear you. Life is BUSY.

Work. Kids. Family. Church. Practices. Appointments. The never-ending to-do list.

Being a CASA volunteer doesn’t mean putting your whole life on hold. It means choosing to make room for one child who needs one consistent adult in their corner.

You don’t have to be available every day.
You don’t have to rearrange your entire life.
You just have to be willing to show up consistently.

Because to a child in foster care, a few hours of your month can mean having someone who knows their story, notices what they need, and keeps showing up.

Too busy to change a child’s whole world?
Maybe not. ❤️

Yesterday we said maybe that somebody is YOU.

But what does “doing something” actually look like?

A CASA volunteer is appointed to advocate for a child involved in the court system because of abuse or neglect.

You get to know the child.
You learn what’s happening in their life.
You talk with the people involved in their case.
You pay attention to what’s working, and what isn’t.
You advocate for their needs.
And you help make sure their voice is heard when important decisions are being made about their future.

But here’s something we REALLY want people to understand:

You aren’t expected to walk in knowing how to do any of this.

We train you.
We guide you.
We support you.

What we can’t train is the decision to care enough to show up.

Maybe that somebody really CAN be you.

When a child enters foster care, there are a lot of people involved in their case, but a CASA volunteer has a unique job:

Show up. Get to know that child. Listen. Learn their story. And make sure their needs and their voice don’t get lost along the way.

You don’t need to be a social worker.
You don’t need to be an attorney.
You don’t need to be a foster parent.
And you don’t have to already know how to do this.

We train you. We support you. You show up for a child.

If you’ve ever heard about a child who was hurting and thought, “Somebody should do something…” this is one very real way you can.
