Thank you!! More than $20K raised for Apple Hill!
🩵
We are tremendously grateful to all who donated to Apple Hill for NH Gives. With your help and donations ranging in size from $10 to $1500, we surpassed our $10,000 fundraising goal and will receive an additional $10,000 from our dedicated match donors = more than $20K!!

This means that:

— Musicians in financial need will receive $341,000 in scholarships to attend Apple Hill's 2026 Summer Chamber Music Workshop in Nelson.

— We can absorb rising costs that we cannot control. We allocated $112,000 to feed our 2026 summer chamber music workshop participants, faculty and visiting artists.

— We can hire 40+ world class summer faculty and guest artists from across the US and globe to be in residence in New Hampshire.

— Students of all ages can connect, grow, discover their true selves, and rediscover their passion for music in a supportive, inclusive environment led with kindness by our Artistic Directors, the Apple Hill String Quartet.

We are grateful to you all! 🎶

Meet our second NH Gives match donor: Matt Gillman — Proud Apple Hill participant since 1975

“Not everyone gets to do the thing they most love until the last moment of their lives. But that happened with my dad, Bob Gillman, in 2003 at Apple Hill. He was 84, playing a Haydn trio with a whiz 11-year-old violinist and a cellist of some in-between age. In the audience, I noticed that midway through the movement, his playing became rough around the edges, unusual for this refined pianist. When he awkwardly repaired afterwards to the winter rehearsal room, from my medical background I knew he was having a stroke. Three days later he was dead. That event was maximally harrowing in the moment, remarkably poetic in the long run.

Why was my dad at Apple Hill? I first attended in 1975, and because my weeks there had been peak experiences, for the next decade-and-a-half I harried, cajoled, wheedled, and coaxed him to attend with me. He finally relented in 1990, and then he became an annual Apple Hill fixture for the following 13 years. It was a highlight of his year. Every fall he would discuss what he might want to play with me or others the following summer. Then he would practice assiduously, like a delighted but somewhat apprehensive kid, in the months leading up to the first day.

He and I, a violinist, would play a piece together each year we attended together. I have some pretty sweet memories of making music with my dad; the Mendelssohn d minor piano trio is stuck in my memory banks for well-matched players, a great coach, and spine tingles. After my dad’s death, my family and I asked that mourners make donations to Apple Hill. We raised enough to endow a piano for one of the practice rooms. He would’ve loved that.”

NH Gives begins … now! ✨ A fantastic opportunity to have your donation go even further! ✨ Meet Our First $10K Match Donor: Dan Goodman — Apple Hill Board of Trustees' Secretary and active Summer Chamber Music Workshop Participant
🍎
"Apple Hill is a special and unique place, where musicians of diverse backgrounds, playing levels, and ages are encouraged to express their creative voice. Apple Hill has been important to our family, for both my son Seth and me. I look forward to attending again this summer. Help us fund another round of scholarships, to allow ALL students to experience the MAGIC of APPLE HILL. Thank you so much for your support."
Thank YOU, Dan!!
🍎
And a message from Dan's son Seth:
“Apple Hill was where I found myself—musically and personally. As a shy, awkward teenager, Apple Hill’s supportive and accepting environment provided a safe space for me to be entirely and comfortably myself. I learned how to collaborate through music, and through that shared experience connect with people who I might never otherwise meet. I’ve met lifelong friends of all ages, backgrounds, nationalities, and identities. Apple hill has also fostered my already close relationship with my dad. Some of the most cherished time with him has been at Apple Hill, playing chamber music and learning and growing together. We bonded over our shared love of music and the special environment Apple Hill creates for it. When I was old enough to become a counselor, I felt privileged to create that same space for the next generation of musicians, so that they might flourish in the same way I did. Apple Hill has had a lasting impact on my personal values—that whatever I do, musical or otherwise, I try to be open-minded, welcoming, and accepting."
🍎
Thank you, Dan and Seth, for sharing your memories and photographs! And thanks to all of YOU for your support of Apple Hill’s mission! No gift is too small (or large)! NH Gives runs from RIGHT NOW (5 pm Tuesday) until 5 pm tomorrow, Wednesday! And remember, you don’t need to be a NH resident to join the giving fun!

Alumni Spotlight: Probyn Gregory! ✨
“A sense of community that I have never seen at any other camp.”

How has what you learned at Apple Hill influenced you today?
“What we built in those early years of Apple Hill was a sense of community that I have never seen at any other camp, music or otherwise and that still exists now and into the future. The level of respect, inclusivity and listening to each other both on and off instruments was off the charts. I may not have worked at AH since 2003, but I still feel it is family and though the resident musicians are all different now, there is a through line and history that live on.”
