A newly released USDA inspection report has exposed shocking neglect inside Houston Interactive Aquarium & Animal Preserve.

Contractors reportedly left a water line running in an armadillo's enclosure until it flooded, leaving the animal swimming for so long he was later found unresponsive, cold, and turning purple before an emergency vet managed to save him.

In a separate incident, an ostrich was forced into an enclosure with an emu with no compatibility check at all, panicked, and crashed into a fence hard enough to tear open her chest, and staff still didn't call a vet until a federal inspector asked if they had.

Inspectors also found otters and a Patagonian cavy denied basic veterinary care, a macaw kept in a barren cage with zero enrichment, and food storage areas crawling with rodent droppings, mold, and insects.

This single facility has now racked up 37 Animal Welfare Act citations in under five years, which makes you wonder how many paying customers walked through those doors thinking they were supporting something educational.
