Considering its 2,000 shared-mile border with the United States, what happens in Mexico truly matters to this country. Similarly, Mexico and Latin America represent the single largest contiguous migrant-sending region to the United States. Strategic social investments across Latin America and especially Mexico in the areas of education, health and the environment can offer opportunities and hope t

o some of the most marginalized and disenfranchised people who might otherwise choose to migrate to the United States. The International Community Foundation’s focus on Mexico comes at a time when the country is facing growing levels of poverty, human migration pressures, public safety concerns, environmental and public health challenges, and natural disasters. The need for a strong and vibrant independent sector that promotes transparency, accountability and the rule of law, as well as expands civil society’s engagement in Mexico, is needed now more than ever.

Today, on International Whale Shark Day, we celebrate one of the ocean's most extraordinary species. Whale sharks play an important role in healthy marine ecosystems, and places like the Bay of La Paz provide critical habitat for their survival.
Protecting these waters also means protecting biodiversity, coastal communities, and the natural systems that sustain life far beyond the shoreline. 🌊

Hoy, en el Día Internacional del Tiburón Ballena, reconocemos a una de las especies más emblemáticas de nuestros océanos. La Bahía de La Paz es uno de los refugios más importantes del mundo para el tiburón ballena, cuya presencia es un indicador de ecosistemas marinos saludables.
Conservar su hábitat también significa proteger la biodiversidad, las comunidades costeras y el equilibrio natural del Mar de Cortés. 🌊

Las llamadas redes fantasma equipos de pesca abandonados o perdidos en el océano continúan atrapando fauna marina mucho tiempo después de haber sido desechadas. En el Golfo de California, Rescate de Lobos Marinos trabaja para localizar, liberar y brindar atención veterinaria a lobos marinos afectados por este problema, contribuyendo también a la protección de otras especies marinas.

Every year, abandoned fishing gear known as ghost nets continues trapping marine wildlife long after it has been discarded. In the Gulf of California, Rescate de Lobos Marinos works to rescue, treat, and release sea lions affected by this growing threat while contributing to healthier marine ecosystems.

Grupo Tortuguero de las Californias A.C. trabaja junto con comunidades costeras, investigadores y organizaciones aliadas para proteger las rutas migratorias y los sitios de anidación a lo largo de ocho estados del noroeste de México.

Conservar a las tortugas marinas también significa proteger los ecosistemas de los que dependen miles de especies, incluidas las comunidades que viven del mar. Cada esfuerzo de conservación ayuda a mantener el equilibrio de nuestros océanos. 🐢

Grupo Tortuguero de las Californias A.C. works alongside coastal communities, researchers, and partner organizations to protect nesting beaches and migratory routes across eight states in northwestern Mexico.

Protecting sea turtles also means protecting the health of marine ecosystems and the communities that depend on them. Every conservation effort helps keep our oceans thriving. 🐢

Across Mexico and the U.S.–Mexico border region, Indigenous Peoples continue safeguarding biodiversity, preserving cultural heritage, and sharing practices that contribute to more resilient communities.
