When Adrian first came to Pathways Kitchen, he wasn't sure what came next. Through consistent training, paid work, and people who believed in him, uncertainty started to feel like possibility.

That kind of change doesn't happen overnight — and it doesn't happen without steady support. This Youth Justice Action Month, be the consistency a young person can count on.

October is Youth Justice Action Month, and this story from WPLN and ProPublica deserves your attention.

Across the country, states are closing youth prisons as juvenile crime falls and research shows these facilities don't keep young people out of trouble after release. Tennessee is going the other direction, with $360 million budgeted for two new youth facilities.

At Pathways Kitchen, we see every day what works instead. Our young people earn real wages. They build real job skills, learn life skills, and are surrounded by mentorship and trauma-informed support. We meet youth wherever they are in the system, from diversion to post-release, and help them build a path forward in their own community, not behind a fence.

Young people don't need to be locked up to be held accountable. They need opportunity, support, and someone who believes in them.

Read the full story and join us this Youth Justice Action Month in asking: what if we invested in pathways instead of prisons?

What does it take for a young person to thrive? We see the answer every day: consistency. A steady paycheck. A place to show up, learn, and be valued.

This month is Youth Justice Action Month — a reminder that justice-impacted youth deserve real opportunity, not just a second chance in name only. Our Thrive Circle makes that possible, every month.

$15/month funds Food Handlers certification for 12 youth. Join at https://connect.clickandpledge.com/w/Form/c114c6d2-5199-4b78-ac30-a3b785d06b18

Today we’re doing some budgeting role play. Each young person was assigned a career and family make-up and have to navigate paying bills, building a life and navigating unexpected challenges.

Remembering last week’s NRAEF Hospitality Pathways conference - we took three youth to DC. For two of them it was their first time on an airplane, and for all of them it was their first experience traveling on their own.

One of them - Florence who has been in our program for three years - was invited to speak on a keynote panel one day at lunch. She shared about her experience in the program and what she has gained. When asked what she feels she brings to the program she beamed and shared that she brings good energy and makes the kitchen a fun place to be.

Thank you to Fraiche DC for welcoming our youth into the kitchen during our dinner tonight!
