Are you a high school or college student interested in exploring health care, gaining hands-on experience and giving back to your community? The Outer Banks Health Student Volunteer Program offers a behind-the-scenes look at how a hospital works, with opportunities to learn from both clinical and non-clinical teams.

The 2026 Student Volunteer Program runs June 15 – August 14 and applications are open now. Email [email protected] to receive an application or learn more.

Scholarship Season Is Just Around The Corner!! Important dates are listed below...

We manage over 80 scholarships for Dare, Currituck, and Ocracoke students, and you can apply for them all in one place—our website!

Our application portal opens online on Friday, January 9, 2026.

We will be at the local libraries and recreation centers offering scholarship application help sessions on the dates below:

- Monday, January 12 from 5:30-7pm at Manteo Library
- Tuesday, January 13 from 5:30-7pm at Kill Devil Hills Library
- Wednesday, January 14 from 5:30-7pm at the Fessenden annex building in Buxton

Chess Club starts back this January!

First chess club of 2026 will be held on January 12 from 2pm -3pm. Chess club will take place for one hour every other Monday (Jan-March) at the Dare County parks and rec building in Kill Devil Hills. All levels are invited to join, with a recommended age of 6+.

Sometimes the rec center has open hours in the gym where younger siblings can play in addition to the outside playground being available.

This can be a drop off event if your child is well behaved and feels comfortable without a parent present.

Build confidence to handle everyday emergencies at home and in your community. This CPR + First Aid Training for homeschool students, ages 12 -18 equips you with practical skills to respond calmly to choking, injuries, and sudden illness.

Led by a certified instructor from the Kill Devil Hills Fire Department. North Carolina recommends that all high school students complete a course in CPR, so we are providing opportunities to fulfill that recommendation.

Two class sessions will occur on Tuesday, January 13 and Tuesday, January 20 beginning at 1pm in the Kill Devil Hills Fire Department Training Room.

The Dare County 4-H County Council would like to invite you to their Teen Community Holiday party! Join us and sip hot chocolate while decorating a stocking or making your very own snow globe! This event is open to youth ages 13-18 at no cost! It will be held at the Dare County Cooperative Extension office: 517 Budleigh St. Manteo, NC 27954 on December 12th 6:00-8:00pm.
