🌞 This Weekend Matters.

This Saturday, Place of Refuge will be out in the community doing what we love most—meeting people where they are, sharing resources, offering encouragement, and reminding our neighbors that they are seen, valued, and not forgotten.

But we’re not stopping there.

On July 11, we’ll host our first-ever Community Picnic & Open House at Hackley Park—a day of food, fun, fellowship, resources, and community connection. It’s a chance to learn more about Place of Refuge, meet our team, and see the vision behind the work we’re doing throughout Muskegon County.

We also need YOUR help!

We’re currently looking for volunteers to assist with:
✅ Outreach activities
✅ Event set-up and clean-up
✅ Guest registration
✅ Food and beverage service
✅ Children’s activities
✅ General event support

Whether you can give a few hours or a full day, your time can make a real difference.

📍 Community Outreach: Saturday, June 20 | Noon-2:30 | Marsh Field
📍 Community Picnic & Open House: July 11 | 11 AM–3 PM | Hackley Park

💙 MISSION MONDAY 💙

A bar of soap may not seem like much.

A tube of toothpaste. A stick of deodorant. A pack of wipes.

Most of us grab these things without a second thought.

But for someone living on the streets, staying in a tent, couch surfing, or struggling to make ends meet, these basic items can mean the difference between feeling invisible and feeling human.

That’s why Place of Refuge is gearing up for our June 20 Hygiene Outreach. We’re collecting personal care items to help our neighbors facing difficult circumstances because everyone deserves access to the essentials.

And then on July 11, we’re throwing open the doors (and the picnic tables!) for our Community Picnic & Open House at Hackley Park.

Good food. Good people. A chance to learn what Place of Refuge is all about and where we’re headed next.

If you’ve been watching from the sidelines and wondering how you can help—this is your invitation.

Donate. Volunteer. Share. Show up. Follow our website for ways to get involved : https://sites.google.com/placeofrefugemuskegon.org/place-of-refuge-muskegon/home

Because sometimes changing a life starts with something as simple as a toothbrush and a conversation.

🌟 SPOTLIGHT SUNDAY 🌟

Meet Steve Willey, Co-Founder and Vice President of Place of Refuge!

While you may not always see him front and center, Steve is the backbone of POR, faithfully working behind the scenes to ensure everything runs smoothly. From helping organize outreach efforts and coordinating logistics to serving wherever needed, his heart for people and unwavering commitment to our mission help keep Place of Refuge moving forward.

Steve’s passion for serving others, restoring hope, and making a difference in our community is a driving force behind all that we do. His dedication reminds us that some of the most impactful work happens quietly, behind the scenes.

💙 Thank you, Steve, for your leadership, servant’s heart, and commitment to helping us create a safe haven where stability, dignity, and hope can be restored.

🦸‍♀️ Superhero Saturday Spotlight 🦸‍♀️

Meet Megan — one of the incredible people helping make a difference through Place of Refuge!

What started as volunteering quickly grew into something more. Megan’s passion for serving others led her to become our Board Administrative Assistant and one of our Volunteer Coordinators, where she helps organize volunteers, supports our leadership team, and ensures our outreach events run smoothly.

Behind every successful event is someone willing to step up, serve, and make an impact—and Megan does exactly that. Her dedication reminds us that you don’t have to be a superhero to change lives; you simply need a heart willing to serve.

✨ Could you be our next volunteer superhero?
Whether you have a few hours to give, a special skill to share, or simply a desire to help your community, there’s a place for you at Place of Refuge.

Join us as we bring hope, dignity, and support to our neighbors in need.

📣 Talk About It Tuesday! 📣

Let’s start a conversation…

💭 What makes a community feel like home?

Is it neighbors helping neighbors? A warm meal shared with someone who needs encouragement? A place where everyone feels welcome?

At Place of Refuge, we believe community is built through connection, compassion, and showing up for one another. That’s why we’re excited to host our Community Picnic & Open House on July 11 at Hackley Park.

We’re bringing people together for food, fellowship, fun, and an opportunity to learn how we can make a difference in Muskegon—together.

What is one thing you’d like to see more of in our community?

🌟 Monday Motivation 🌟

A new week means new opportunities to make a difference!

As we look ahead, we’re excited about two upcoming opportunities to serve our community:

🧼 Hygiene & Sack Lunch Outreach – June 20
🎉 Community Picnic & Open House – July 11

Every meal served, every hygiene item distributed, every volunteer hour given, and every donation received helps bring hope, dignity, and encouragement to someone who needs it.

This week, we challenge you to ask yourself: What difference can I make in someone’s life today? Sometimes the smallest act of kindness can have the biggest impact.

Whether you’d like to volunteer, donate, sponsor an activity, or simply help spread the word, there’s a place for you at Place of Refuge.

Together, we’re building stronger communities and restoring hope—one person at a time. ❤️
