These signs have been popping up across Murphy as the petition drive continues... here's the story behind them...

➡️ The Murphy Chamber of Commerce must collect approximately 2,800 valid signatures from registered Murphy voters by July 17 for the measure to be considered for the November ballot.

Signing the petition does not mean supporting or opposing the proposal. It simply allows Murphy voters the opportunity to decide the issue at the ballot box.

Supporters say the measure could help keep more tax revenue in Murphy and support future economic development opportunities within the community.

✨Community. Connection. Belonging.✨

Yesterday, our Murphy Chamber of Commerce Executive Director, Ty Lake had the honor of speaking to more than 150 incredible women at the 6th Annual East Collin County Women’s Conference in Wylie, hosted by the Wylie Chamber of Commerce.

The topic was simple, yet powerful: building community.

At the Murphy Chamber, community is at the heart of everything we do. Every event we host, every connection we make, and every opportunity we create is done with purpose, inclusion, and a genuine sense of belonging. It’s why so many people describe our Chamber as more than a business organization—it’s a close-knit family.

Today, we are 184 members strong, and we continue to rise above the norm because of the relationships, support, friendships, and networking opportunities that our members create together. Our success is not measured solely by growth, but by the strength of the connections that help businesses and individuals thrive.

We are grateful to the Wylie Chamber of Commerce, Tina and the conference leadership team, for creating such a meaningful event that brought together women from across our region to learn, inspire, and encourage one another. It was also a wonderful opportunity to connect with passionate leaders who are making a difference in their communities every day.

Community doesn’t happen by accident, it happens when genuine people come together with open hearts, shared purpose, and a commitment to lifting one another up. That’s what we strive to do every day in Murphy, and we are proud to be part of a region that values collaboration over competition.

Here’s to continuing to build stronger businesses, stronger relationships, and stronger communities, together. 🤍

We want to make you aware of a local option petition effort currently underway in the City of Murphy.

The petition seeks to place a local option election on a future ballot that would allow Murphy voters to decide whether to permit the retail sale of liquor in package stores for off-premises consumption within the city.

👉Why Should Murphy Residents Consider Signing This Petition?

First, it’s important to understand what this petition does and what it does not do.

Signing the petition does not approve alcohol sales in Murphy.

Signing the petition simply helps place the issue on a future ballot so Murphy residents can vote and decide for themselves.

Murphy residents deserve clear information and the opportunity to make informed decisions about issues that impact our community.

The reality is that many Murphy residents already purchase alcohol in neighboring cities. When they do, the sales tax revenue generated from those purchases supports those communities, not Murphy.

The petition is not about encouraging alcohol consumption or changing the character of our city. It is about allowing Murphy voters the opportunity to decide whether those dollars should continue leaving our community or help support local priorities here at home.

If voters ultimately approve local sales, potential revenue could help support:

✅ Parks and recreational amenities
✅ Community events and family programs
✅ Infrastructure and public improvements
✅ Economic development opportunities that benefit residents

No matter where you stand on the issue, we encourage everyone to learn the facts, ask questions, and participate in the conversation.

An informed community is a stronger community.

The decision belongs to Murphy voters.
