Releasing the TNR kitties!

Whether youโ€™re a cat lover or not, itโ€™s no question that community cats are a hot topic in almost every community.

The good thing about being human is, we learn as we evolve and grow. The old way of fixing the problem of community cats was widespread euthanasia, and unfortunately, is still common practice in some communities.๐Ÿ‘Ž

However, studies globally will show time and time again the statistics of controlling the overpopulation and disease using TNR programs versus euthanasia, and you canโ€™t argue with facts! Euthanasia initiates what is called the vacuum effect in community cat colonies, something that is common in many animals species throughout nature. For a visual explanation of how it works: https://www.alleycat.org/wp-content/uploads/2015/08/the_vacuum_effect_chart_for_web-_96_1_31_25.jpg

Sprinkles is a community cat that we were contacted by an employee at a business about six weeks ago. She had been drooling extensively and her tongue was hanging out. We got her to the vet, and she had several teeth extracted due to a infection in her mouth. She wasnโ€™t healthy enough to fix then, so we were fortunate to be able to re-trap her this week and get her spayed and vaccinated. However, this morning when we picked her up, we were informed that she had yet again another mouth infection and needed more teeth pulled. We are currently working on trapping another female at the same location with the same problem. Logical deduction is that something they are drinking or eating from is likely unclean and spreading disease. So we would like to also take this time to remind outdoor cat owners and caregivers that if you are feeding cats, it is crucial to make sure that hygiene is top priority for their health and safety. Weโ€™re back at it after two long years!

Thank you to the Quincy Humane Society for reaching out about squeezing us in for our first spay/neuter transport in two years!

A big thank you to Joni John Smith for helping fix and set traps! A big thank you Chad Berens for transporting with us today, and allowing our pup to ride sh***un with you! And thank you to all who participated and was patient as we worked out all the technological kinks, we are a bit rusty!

Cat math:
1) 8 females+ 1 litter per year of 5 kittens(average)= 40 kittens

Now letโ€™s give a more realistic scenario, since cats can ACTUALLY have 2-5(in very optimal conditions) litters per year.

2) 8 females+ 3 litters per year each with 5 kittens= 120 kittens

Just these 8 female cats being spayed makes that much of an impact in our community cat population, so be part of the solution and spay & neuter your pets like these folks๐Ÿฉท

Adoptable Bane! ๐Ÿพ๐Ÿ–ค

This 4-year-old Boston Terrier/Dachshund mix is ready to find his next forever family!

He knows โ€œsitโ€ and โ€œcome,โ€ gets along great with other dogs, cats, and kids, and would love a family who enjoys going on walks. A securely fenced yard is a must for this little guy!

If youโ€™re looking for a sweet companion to add to your family, Bane might just be your guy!
