Bonfire season is upon us! With many of us wanting to get out and enjoy those last few warm months before winter it is important to remember: DON'T MOVE FIREWOOD! Firewood bundles can harbor invasive insect species that we don't want spreading around our forests. Instead BUY IT WHERE YOU BURN IT! Ideally firewood should be transported no more than 10 miles from where you purchased it.

Last week, the Lake St. Clair CISMA attended the MISC Annual Field Training hosted by North Country Cooperative Invasive Species Management Area and Northwest Michigan Invasive Species Network!

Coordinators took a tour of project sites, caught up on state updates and walked through a mock pesticide inspection.

The Field Training was fantastic and was a great way to transition into the Fall field season!

As we get into late summer, spotted lanternfly is starting to take on its distinct adult form. This flying invader poses a huge threat to fruit crops like apples and cherries as well as native tree species like black walnut and maples. While this sap sucking insect prefers to congregate on invasive tree of heaven, it has been found to feed on over 70 species! If you see this sap sucking invader remember to SEE IT. SQUISH IT. REPORT IT.

Out on the water today? Come join us along with Metroparks and the MSU extension boat wash team for a free boat wash at the Lake St. Clair Metropark boat launch! Washing your boat on site is a great way to prevent the spread of aquatic invasive species between water bodies.

The CISMA Needs Your Help!

The Lake St. Clair CISMA is working to survey for and treat Water-primrose, an aquatic invasive species, in Lake St. Clair.

This plant is identified by its red stems (growing either horizontally and vertically), it's dark-green leaves (can be willow-like or oblong) and has showy yellow flowers (with 5 petals).

We are both excited and honored to win the Inspiration Cup for the 3rd year in the row! A huge shoutout to our partners for submitting their hours and photos and to TSN for putting on this amazing challenge.

Each participant in The Stewardship Network Spring Challenge has worked incredibly hard these last 2.5 months restoring habitat, removing invasive species, educating and posting. This truly shows the community we have and we cannot be more excited to continue serving as a member community for TSN!
